City of Haltom City Job Description
INTERN GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine clerical, office, and engineering-related functions; provides assistance to the City Engineer and the Engineering Division; and performs other related duties as assigned.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Works with the GIS Database Administrator to update and maintain Public Works record documents, sewer plat books, water drawings, and/or assigned City maps. Communicates with stakeholders and City residents in person and via telephone regarding reported issues/complaints. Files plats and other related documents and performs research at the Tarrant County courthouse upon approval of the City Engineer. Under engineering supervision, assists in reviewing construction plans and monitors for compliance with regulatory requirements and City specifications. Attends project related meetings with external customers as directed. Provides office support and clerical assistance as needed to maintain efficient operations. May include typing, filing, sorting, retrieving records; bookkeeping; operating computer equipment; data entry; photocopying; collating material. Organizes the Engineering Division's Plan Room and maintains it in such a manner that the documents are readily accessible. Drafts notes in relation to items discussed at Design Review Committee (DRC) meetings. Provides engineering support to the City Engineer and the Director of Public Works. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma and some college level course work in an engineering or construction-related field of study, and one year of experience working in an office environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of engineering preferred but not required. Sewer, water, traffic, and road construction principles preferred but not required. Construction plans and drawings preferred but not required. Engineering records, reports, and documentation preferred but not required.
Required Skill in:
Coordinating and performing a variety of routine office functions. Providing engineering support to the City Engineer and Director of Public Works. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others. Skilled in the operation of personal computer operations. Must have good data entry skills with speed and accuracy. Work Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment and is subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional field visits to observe public infrastructure and/or construction sites may be required.
