$47,823.00-$62,142.00 (Schedule FP) Primary Goal The Purchasing Controller supports the Child Nutrition Program by overseeing purchasing activities to ensure all food, supplies, and specialty items align with approved menus, budgets, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining cost control, managing commodity utilization, and ensuring efficient communication between district staff and vendors. The Purchasing Controller must demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound financial decision-making, and excellent customer service when working with school nutrition staff and suppliers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and verify purchase orders to ensure alignment with approved menus and departmental budgets.
  • Monitor and control purchasing processes to ensure cost-effective procurement of food and supplies.
  • Manage USDA commodity selection, tracking, and distribution to school sites.
  • Work collaboratively with the Nutrition Specialist to ensure specialty menu items and program requirements are fulfilled.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, product availability, substitutions, and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, invoices, and documentation in accordance with district and USDA guidelines.
  • Assist school cafeteria managers with ordering procedures and address questions or concerns related to purchases.
  • Ensure compliance with district purchasing policies and Child Nutrition Program regulations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and help identify opportunities for cost savings and improved purchasing efficiency.
  • Provide excellent customer service and professional support to internal staff and external vendors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Program Director. Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of food service or child nutrition experience, or an Associate's Degree in Business, Food Service Management, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory management, or food service operations preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound financial decisions and maintain accuracy with purchasing records.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of school nutrition operations, menu planning, and food purchasing procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff across multiple school sites.
  • Strong customer service mindset when working with cafeteria managers and vendors.
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems, spreadsheets, and purchasing software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Work Environment
  • This position primarily works in an office setting within the Child Nutrition Department but requires regular communication and coordination with school sites and vendors.
