Job Description

Assistant Director of Purchasing (CS27-035) To build on a strong foundation of achievement and contribute to the realization of its ambitious institutional goals, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Purchasing (CS27-035) . What You Will Do Under the direction of the Director of Purchases, this position is responsible for administration of the buying and contracting function of Purchasing which includes supervision and performance management of staff. This position is responsible for meeting the purchasing requirements of all SIUE departments and adhering to the requirement of the Illinois Procurement Code and Board of Trustees policies. The incumbent will also serve as contracts manager for the department. They will provide guidance for major purchase categories and complex bids as well as review and sign purchase orders over the legal bid limit. In addition, the position is responsible for developing and conducting trainings and seminars on purchasing procedures and regulations.

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
  • Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.

  • Possession of a current Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) or Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) from The Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC), or a current Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP) certificate, Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM)

Step Illinois Residency Requirement :
Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver's License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days is grounds for immediate separation.
