Job Title:
Assistant Buyer / Purchasing AssistantJob Description This Assistant Buyer role supports a large automotive customer service purchasing organization, focusing on MRO, packaging, and vehicle personalization. You will work closely with buyers to manage non-purchase order processes, maintain purchasing systems and reports, and ensure timely and accurate handling of parts, orders, and supplier-related activities. The position offers the opportunity to build a strong foundation in purchasing with a clear path toward future buyer responsibilities. Responsibilities + Support buyers with a variety of purchasing activities within MRO, packaging, and vehicle personalization categories. + Work with buyers on the Non-Purchase Order (NPO) process and create, maintain, and distribute a weekly NPO agenda. + Initiate and implement new charting methods for interim prices reports, NPO systems, and other purchasing reports as required. + Resource parts and coordinate with suppliers to ensure availability and timely delivery of required materials. + Process credit and debit memos accurately and in a timely manner. + Resolve departmental issues across purchasing systems and topics, coordinating with relevant stakeholders as needed. + Maintain MDI trackers and SP records to ensure data accuracy and availability for the team. + Set up and process daily stock redirects to support inventory and supply continuity. + Process sales agreements, monitor shipment status, and track deliveries to completion. + Analyze COPIS (Customer, Output, Process, Input, and Supplier) tickets and route open tickets to the appropriate buyer for action. + Provide administrative support for purchasing activities, including order entry, tracking, and documentation. + Follow up with suppliers to confirm orders, delivery schedules, and resolve discrepancies. + Use SAP and other systems to enter, track, and report purchasing and order-related data. + Prepare and maintain tracking and reporting tools to support cross-functional communication and visibility. + Participate in special projects as assigned, contributing to process improvements and purchasing initiatives. + Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to support purchasing, supply chain, and operational objectives. Essential Skills + At least 2 years of experience in purchasing as an assistant, junior buyer, or similar role. + Experience working in purchasing or procurement environments with responsibility for order entry, tracking, and administrative support. + SAP experience gained through work or academic settings. + At least 2 years of experience in tracking, reporting, and working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders. + Completed bachelor's degree. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel for data entry, reporting, and tracking. + Experience with purchase orders, non-purchase orders, and order entry processes. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. + Strong initiative and a demonstrated long-term interest in progressing into a buyer role. + Effective communication skills for working with suppliers, buyers, and cross-functional teams. + Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, documentation, and reporting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in purchasing, supply chain, or procurement within a complex organization. + Hands-on experience with vendor management and supplier follow-up activities. + Familiarity with tracking tools, reports, and dashboards used in purchasing and supply chain environments. + Experience working with SAP purchasing modules and related systems. + Ability to analyze tickets or issues (such as COPIS tickets) and route them appropriately. + Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities. + Interest in continuous improvement and developing new charting or reporting methods. + Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to support special projects as needed. Work Environment This role operates in a hybrid work model, currently with four days in the office and one day working from home, subject to change based on leadership direction. The on-site location is a main campus with an open-concept, dedicated floor and an updated, modern workspace that includes a cafeteria. Standard work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for a 40-hour workweek, and you must be able to start at 8:00 a.m. The dress code is business casual, where khakis or dress pants with a button-down shirt or blouse are appropriate. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
