Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Surgical Services Administration Job Family Clerical Work Shift Days (United States of America) Summary Responsible for scheduling patients for surgery and producing daily schedules for surgical areas. Responsibilities include entering and updating data, as well as monitoring, verifying and confirming final schedules. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Extracts patient demographic data from surgical information sheets or phone notifications and inputs into operating room scheduling system Monitors schedules for missing specialty service appointments and discrepancies in type of room and equipment assigned for specific procedures and contacts appropriate service to confirm or resolve Determines the order in which the patients are scheduled, by reviewing procedures, time needed, ancillary resource availability, surgeon block, etc. and schedules cases in accordance with policy Adjust operating room schedules according to written guidelines and/or verbal communications and if necessary, communicates changes to surgeon's offices and others Communicates the need for special instruments, supplies and equipment to Operating Room personnel Schedules pre-admission appointments when case is scheduled and informs the physician office of date/time Works with Management to make any recommendations for potential database maintenance in computerized scheduling system Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required Graduate of a Surgical Technologist course required OR 2 years surgical experience required
Work Experience:
2 years experience as surgical technologist in operating room preferred OR 2 years experience where primary function of position was utilizing an automated block scheduling system to schedule the use of operating rooms/physician offices preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of basic scheduling requirements and use and functions of an automated surgical scheduling system Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology Planning and organizational skills Problem solving skills Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Ability to work effectively with others Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, Microsoft suite and database software in performing work assignments Thoroughness, initiative
