Job Description

Marine Scheduler Location:
Sulphur, LA Reporting to the Director of Voyage Planning, the Marine Scheduler is responsible for coordinating vessel movements, crews, cargo, and customer schedules to ensure safe and efficient operations. The Marine Scheduler is responsible for communicating with various tugboats, docks, customers, inspectors and maintenance personnel. The Marine Scheduler is responsible for transposing traffic from the vessels to track the movements of various barges. Operations are always subject to change so this role will also be responsible to assist with various other operations functions as directed by the Director of Operations, Gulf and the Southern Devall Vice President of Commercial Operations. Job Description Schedule and dispatch tugboats, barges, and vessels. Coordinate vessel movements with captains, pilots, customers, and terminals. Track vessel locations and monitor voyage progress. Maintain daily schedules and update changes due to weather, delays, or customer requests. Coordinate crew changes and ensure staffing requirements are met. Communicate with ports, docks, and customers regarding arrivals and departures. Ensure compliance with company policies, Coast Guard regulations, and customer requirements. Prepare reports, logs, and operational documentation. Handle emergency schedule changes and problem-solving. Required Skills Operations & Scheduling Strong planning and scheduling abilities Dispatching and logistics experience Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously Knowledge of vessel operations Communication Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to work with captains, crews, customers, and management Professional telephone and radio communication skills Computer Skills Microsoft Excel Microsoft Outlook Microsoft Word Marine scheduling or dispatch software GPS/vessel tracking systems Data entry and reporting Problem Solving Quick decision-making under pressure Ability to adjust schedules due to weather, breakdowns, or customer changes Strong attention to detail Industry Knowledge Understanding of inland waterways, ports, and marine transportation Knowledge of Coast Guard regulations Familiarity with tug and barge operations Understanding of crew work/rest requirements
