What to Expect The Production Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining production schedules for all value-added processes. The position reviews customer orders, material availability, labor and equipment capacity, and due dates to establish practical priorities and support on-time delivery. The Production Scheduler works closely with sales, purchasing, production, quality, shipping, and the Plant Manager to keep work moving and promptly communicate risks or changes. The position does not directly supervise employees but must communicate priorities clearly and work effectively across departments. This position monitors order status throughout production, adjusts schedules as conditions change, supports inventory accuracy, and identifies constraints and recurring delays. The Production Scheduler is expected to recommend improvements that reduce lead time, handling, waste, and cost while protecting safety, quality, and customer requirements. What You'll Do Perform all job duties in a safe and efficient manner and help maintain a clean, organized work environment. Create and maintain daily and weekly production schedules for all ABD value-added processes. Review new and open customer orders throughout the day and assign priorities based on due dates, material availability, capacity, and customer requirements. Confirm that order information, drawings, material requirements, and routing details are complete before work is scheduled. Coordinate schedule priorities and changes with the Plant Manager, production supervisors, and department leads. Communicate with the sales team regarding order status, expedited requests, changing priorities, and risks to customer commitments. Coordinate with purchasing and receiving to confirm material availability and expected delivery dates. Plan the placement of inbound inventory so material is stored in the correct location and unnecessary handling or material mixing is avoided. Monitor work in process, equipment constraints, labor availability, and production progress; revise schedules when conditions change. Identify potential delays early, recommend recovery actions, and promptly escalate issues that may affect quality, cost,or on-time delivery. Coordinate with quality and shipping to ensure completed orders meet requirements and are available when needed. Track and report scheduling performance, including backlog, schedule attainment, lead time, and on-time delivery. Maintain accurate production schedules, order-status records, reports, and related documentation. Perform quarterly cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate inventory records. Follow all operational SOPs and quality-control policies and assist with developing or improving procedures when needed. Support lean-manufacturing and continuous-improvement efforts that reduce waste, delays, handling, and production cost. Develop practical solutions to recurring scheduling, material-flow, and communication problems. Immediately report safety, quality, material, or production concerns to the Plant Manager. Perform other duties as assigned. What You'll Bring Strong organizational, planning, prioritization, and time-management skills. Professional oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively across departments. Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production routing, material flow, inventory control, and capacity planning. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; experience with ERP, inventory, or production-scheduling systems preferred. Learn operations, products, routing, equipment capabilities, and customer requirements. Maintain accurate schedules and communicate changes promptly, clearly, and professionally. Balance customer priorities with material availability, capacity, safety, quality, and cost. Be proactive, detail-oriented, dependable, and willing to investigate and resolve problems. Support continuous improvement, efficiency, labor savings, cost reduction, and increased profitability. Eddie Kane Steel's flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail. Eddie Kane Steel's processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface. Through close partnerships with vendors offering proven high-quality workmanship, we provide services such as painting and coating, stamping, embossing, slitting, sawing, turning, annealing, leveling, and pressing.
