Job Title:
Shipping and Receiving Clerk Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Clerk accurately packages, ships, and records inventory while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment. This role operates packaging and material handling equipment, follows defined work orders and customer requirements, and upholds high standards of workmanship, accuracy, and accountability in a fast-paced, production-driven shipping environment. Responsibilities Complete packaging work orders as assigned according to defined requirements and production schedules. Stop work order processing immediately upon identifying any nonconforming condition and follow appropriate escalation procedures. Operate electronic counting scales, heat sealers, and automated packaging machines safely and efficiently. Maintain the integrity of inventory by accurately weighing, counting, and recording final inventory counts of packaged parts upon completion of each work order. Perform shipping and receiving activities including picking orders, packing, labeling, and preparing shipments. Use paper pick tickets to select and stage orders accurately from inventory. Verify lot number integrity and confirm alpha/numeric part numbers to ensure the correct items ship to each customer. Differentiate and process various shipping methods, including third party, prepaid (add), and consignee shipping. Pack orders by counting individual pieces or using digital scales to ensure accurate quantities. Fulfill orders according to customer standards and specific customer requirements, including special packaging or documentation needs. Prepare and print proper shipping labels and documentation, including domestic and international shipping documents. Process small parcel shipments using carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL, as well as applicable shipping software and systems. Use ERP shipping systems, including platforms such as NetSuite, Sightline, or AS400, to process orders and update shipment and inventory information. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently, using material handling equipment such as forklifts when authorized. Maintain the warehouse facility, including general housekeeping of the packaging area and ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow established process-oriented workflows in a fast-paced, production-driven shipping environment. Adhere to workmanship standards, conduct codes, and workplace safety practices at all times. Multi-task and handle various assignments simultaneously, adjusting priorities quickly as business needs change. Collaborate with a small warehouse team while taking ownership of individual tasks and responsibilities. Demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines and provide a high level of customer service. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of warehouse experience working in a shipping environment with a consistent tenure at one company. Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and a strong sense of urgency to perform at a high level. Basic computer skills, including the ability to use shipping software and ERP systems. Basic mathematical skills to weigh, count, and verify quantities accurately. Working knowledge of ERP systems for shipping, such as NetSuite, Sightline, or AS400. Order picking experience using paper pick tickets to select correct items and quantities. Understanding of lot number integrity and experience verifying alpha/numeric part numbers. Experience in shipping with the ability to distinguish between third party, prepaid (add), and consignee shipping methods. Experience packing orders by counting individual pieces or using digital scales. Ability to fulfill orders according to customer standards and specific customer requirements. Ability to handle heavy weight and remain on feet for up to 8 hours. Proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to change direction quickly throughout the day to support customer needs. Experience with material handling equipment; forklift experience is desired. Small package shipping experience with carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL. Experience printing shipping labels and documents, including international shipping documentation. Experience working safely in a warehouse or production environment. Process-oriented mindset in a fast-paced, production-driven shipping environment. Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving tasks, including picking, packing, labeling, loading and unloading trucks, and inventory control. Familiarity with shipping software and shipping systems, including creation of Bills of Lading (BOLs). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with inventory control processes, including cycle counts and maintaining accurate stock levels. Background in general warehouse operations, including packing, labeling, and staging orders. Comfort using digital scales and electronic counting equipment for accurate part counts. Experience working with climate-controlled warehouse environments. Ability to work independently while contributing to a small team of warehouse professionals. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, labeling, and data entry. Reliability and accountability in attendance, productivity, and quality of work. Comfort working with shipping documentation such as Bills of Lading and other carrier forms. Experience using shipping systems and software integrated with ERP platforms. Work Environment This role is a full-time first-shift position as a Shipping Clerk, working approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Standard hours currently follow a summer schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays, offering an early start to the weekend. You will work in a general warehouse environment that is very clean and climate controlled, supporting comfort and safety throughout the day. The team consists of a small group of about six people, with each person assigned to their own tasks while still collaborating as needed. The work involves standing on your feet for most of the shift, handling heavy items, and using equipment such as electronic counting scales, heat sealers, automated packaging machines, and material handling equipment including forklifts (where authorized and trained). Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wauconda, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
