Shipping and Receiving Specialist Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Specialist works in a warehouse environment handling incoming and outgoing electrical supplies. This role focuses on accurately unloading, inspecting, and recording incoming materials, as well as packaging and shipping products ranging from small labeled parts to large electrical wire spools. The position requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with scanners and computer systems, and the ability to coordinate shipments and inventory data while supporting a busy, fast-paced operation. Responsibilities Work in either the shipping or receiving area of the warehouse, depending on operational needs. Unload trucks and flatbeds safely and efficiently in the loading and receiving areas. Handle a variety of electrical supplies, including small boxed parts and large non-live electrical wire spools. Package and prepare outgoing orders for shipment, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and secure packing. Process incoming materials by unpacking, verifying, and organizing products for internal inventory. Verify all incoming and outgoing items against order documents to ensure accuracy and completeness. Use RF scanners and computer systems to receive, track, and update product information in the inventory system. Set up shipments in the computer system, including entering shipment details and coordinating with vendors and carriers. Perform data entry tasks related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control with a high level of accuracy. Assist with order picking and packing to fulfill customer and internal orders as required. Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and, if qualified, forklifts to move and stage products. Load outgoing shipments onto trucks or flatbeds in a safe and organized manner. Support inventory control activities, including warehouse inventory checks and cycle counts. Handle heavy lifting and material handling tasks as needed to support daily operations. Follow all warehouse safety procedures and guidelines while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Remain flexible with daily working hours, staying for 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts as needed until work is completed. Work occasional weekends when business volume requires additional coverage. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baton Rouge, LA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr.
