Job Description
SHIPPING ASSISTANT MANAGER
Weekend Shift - Mon, Fri, Sat, Sun 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
SHIPPING ASSISTANT MANAGER
Looking for a job? Look elsewhere. Looking for a craft — at a place where your brain, your standards, and your work ethic actually matter? Read on. We're Laudisi — the people behind Smokingpipes.com, Peterson of Dublin, Cornell & Diehl, Caldwell Cigars, Low Country Pipe & Cigar, and a handful of other brands you've probably never heard of (but our customers are obsessed with). We ship hundreds of orders a day to people who notice everything. These aren't shoppers hitting "buy now" on impulse. They're enthusiasts who spent time researching, comparing, and choosing. They remember details. They'll email us about packaging. Your role? You're the backbone of the operation — the person who makes sure our Shipping department doesn't just run, but runs like a machine. You'll lead Supervisors and Associates, deploy people where they're needed most, and hold the standard that makes customers write reviews like, "I purchased 100 different products, and there are no mistakes. Amazing!" That's the standard. Every order. Every day. And you're the one holding the line.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
Manage the workflow of daily shipping operations — you understand the hourly and daily flow based on data, product launches, promotions, and performance evaluations, and you use that understanding to deploy Associates throughout the warehouse to meet business needs. You'll also: Keep Supervisors and Associates sharp and focused through ongoing coaching Run interference and minimize distractions so your team can do their best work Investigate and attend to exception orders when things don't go according to plan Conduct bi-weekly exception audits to catch issues before they become patterns Solve minor inventory issues before they become major problems Train new Associates on workflow methods and procedures Perform ongoing Supervisor and Associate training Participate actively in the hiring process — because you know what kind of people make this team work Communicate with other departments regarding customer orders Assist with critical supply orders Ensure completion of daily end-of-day tasks Keep the shipping department organized when things slow down
YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF
You're not looking to manage. You're looking to lead. You show up on time because that's what professionals do — and because your team is counting on you. You understand the flow of operations and can read the room: when to push, when to adjust, when to jump in yourself. When a Supervisor or Associate is struggling, you coach them up instead of writing them off. When standards slip, it bothers you — and you address it directly instead of letting it slide. You don't just want to be good at this. You want to build a department that doesn't drop the ball. The kind of department that makes everyone else's job easier because they handled their part right. This is a landing pad, not a parking lot. People who excel here don't stay stuck; they grow into operations management, logistics leadership, and other parts of the business as they demonstrate judgment and initiative. This is an opportunity with access to management training, ongoing mentoring, and a chance to impact Laudisi's company culture and performance as part of the leadership team.
YOU CAN EXPECT
Compensation and benefits : Competitive compensation; health, dental, and vision insurance; six paid holidays; generous PTO; 401(k) with 1:1 match up to 4% and no vesting period.
Perks :
casual dress (jeans and t‑shirts), tuition reimbursement, referral bonuses, year‑end bonuses, fresh fruit daily, paid luncheons, and regular company events.
Growth :
real opportunities to take on more responsibility as you master the work, improve processes, and show you can own outcomes—not just tasks.
Culture :
a passionate group of "Laudisians" who like the products, like the customers, and like working with other people who actually care. Reality check : we work around tobacco and smoke; many of us are enthusiasts. You'll often be in smoking areas, so you'll need to be comfortable with that..
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
While experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics management would be nice, what we're really looking for is: A real intolerance for sloppiness — when standards slip, you notice and you fix it. Leadership instinct — you understand how to deploy people effectively based on workflow, not just schedules.
Reliability:
on time, on site, with open availability to work days and weekends with some schedule flexibility. Ability to stay organized, follow procedures, train others, and maintain a clean workspace. The ability to work autonomously while building strong working relationships with management and team members. A positive "can-do" attitude that inspires team morale and productivity. Curiosity about pipes, cigars, or really any other "deep hobby" worlds where the minutiae really matter. Comfort being on your feet and lifting up to 30 lbs frequently throughout the day. A valid driver's license and the ability to pass a criminal background check.
THE BOTTOM LINE
This job isn't for everyone. It's for people who take pride in doing things right, who get frustrated when standards slip, and who want to lead a team that actually holds the line. If you're reading this and thinking, "finally, a place that gets it" — apply below. If you're reading this and thinking, "Wow, they sound intense" — we probably are. And that's fine. There are plenty of other jobs out there. But if you want to be part of something where your effort matters, where quality isn't negotiable, and where showing up means actually showing up? We're building something here. Come help us build it right.
