Job Title:
Shipping and Receiving Clerk Job Description This role supports a high-volume service and repair facility that works with pumps, rotating equipment, compressors, generators, light towers, and tools. You will manage all aspects of shipping and receiving, inventory control, and warehouse organization in the company's largest service center. The position focuses on shop-based work with no travel, combining hands-on material handling with accurate data entry in ERP systems. Responsibilities Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against packing lists or purchase orders, and accurately post receipts in the ERP system. Prepare outbound shipments by picking, packing, labeling, and staging materials for carriers such as FedEx and other freight providers. Load and unload trucks safely using a sit-down propane forklift, stand-up electric forklift, pallet jack, and manual handling as needed. Move boxes, parts, and equipment throughout the warehouse to support technicians and maintain efficient material flow. Perform inventory control activities, including cycle counting, inventory transfers, and reconciliation of discrepancies in the ERP system. Use SAP or other ERP software to manage inventory records, track orders, and maintain accurate stock levels. Utilize RF scanners and data entry tools to record inventory movements and ensure real-time system accuracy. Maintain a tidy, organized, and safe warehouse environment, following high housekeeping standards during both busy and downtime periods. Coordinate with logistics supervision, technicians, apprentices, and office staff to ensure timely availability of materials for service work. Use Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to track inventory, prepare basic reports, and support inventory analysis. Handle packaging, labeling, and documentation for outgoing shipments in accordance with company procedures. Support material handling and warehouse shipping activities within a manufacturing and service shop environment. Demonstrate initiative by identifying process improvements, resolving basic issues independently, and assisting team members when needed. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of forklifts and material handling equipment. Essential Skills Minimum of 4+ years of warehouse experience in a shipping and receiving or inventory control role. Proficiency with SAP or other ERP systems for posting receipts, managing inventory, and processing transactions. Experience working with manufacturing or service environments that rely on ERP-based inventory management. Strong inventory control skills, including cycle counting, inventory transfers, and order tracking. Ability to safely operate a sit-down propane forklift and a stand-up electric forklift. Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving processes, including picking, packing, loading, and unloading. Proficiency with pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other material handling equipment. Competence in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office for data entry, tracking orders, and basic reporting. Accurate and efficient data entry skills for maintaining inventory records and processing transactions. Ability to manage multiple tasks such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, and warehouse organization. High level of initiative and a proactive approach to completing tasks and solving problems. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technicians, supervisors, and office staff. Capability to move boxes and materials manually as required for daily warehouse operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a service or repair shop environment handling parts for pumps, rotating equipment, compressors, generators, and related tools. Background in extensive computer-based inventory management and order tracking. Familiarity with FedEx and other carrier systems for shipping documentation and labeling. Experience with warehouse shipping workflows, including picking, staging, and packaging. Comfort working with RF scanners and barcode-based inventory systems. Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient warehouse. Ability to adapt to evolving workloads and support a growing technical team. The team includes logistics supervision, technicians, apprentices, and a programmer, with plans to continue growing the technical staff. Work is shop-based only, with no travel required. The schedule follows a day shift, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime not guaranteed but very likely depending on workload and only rare weekend work. You will work with forklifts (sit-down propane and stand-up electric), pallet jacks, RF scanners, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office tools as part of daily operations. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses to support a safe and compliant work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baytown, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
