Shipping & Receiving Forklift Operator Job Description The Shipping & Receiving Forklift Operator safely and efficiently loads, unloads, moves, and stages materials within a busy industrial facility. This role supports daily plant operations by handling inbound and outbound shipments, maintaining accurate inventory, and consistently following all safety procedures in a high-activity production environment. Responsibilities Operate forklifts, including electric, propane, and diesel units, safely and efficiently to move materials throughout the facility. Load and unload flatbed trucks, ensuring materials are properly secured for transport. Perform shipping and receiving duties such as staging, sorting, and handling inventory for inbound and outbound shipments. Accurately read, interpret, and process shipping documents, packing slips, and bills of lading. Inspect incoming materials for damage and verify quantities and descriptions against accompanying documentation. Maintain organized inventory storage areas, staging lanes, and workspaces to support efficient material flow. Conduct daily equipment inspections on forklifts and related material handling equipment, and promptly report maintenance or safety issues. Follow all safety procedures, including proper load securement, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to facility safety policies. Support plant production and logistics teams by supplying materials, removing finished goods, and assisting with general production needs. Assist with general labor tasks such as packing, machine tending, and basic production activities as required. Essential Skills Proven ability to operate sit-down forklifts safely and efficiently, including electric, propane, and diesel models. Experience performing shipping and receiving tasks such as staging, sorting, and inventory handling. Ability to load and unload flatbed trucks and secure materials properly for transport. Strong ability to read and accurately process shipping documents, packing slips, and bills of lading. Experience working in general labor, production, or warehouse environments with heavy lifting requirements. Capability to perform basic machine operation and support production processes. Attention to detail when inspecting incoming materials and verifying quantities against documentation. Commitment to following safety procedures, including proper load securement and consistent use of PPE. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent forklift and equipment movement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in general production, packing, or machine operation in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Comfort working in environments with dust, dirt, loud machinery, and heavy equipment traffic. Flexibility to support both indoor and outdoor operations as needed. Work Environment The facility operates in a gravel and concrete manufacturing setting that is very dirty, with significant dust and dirt in the air and a constant loud hum from machines feeding materials into bags. Forklifts and other equipment move throughout the facility, creating a busy industrial atmosphere. Some locations are primarily indoor/outdoor facilities with most time spent indoors, while others are mainly outdoor sites that require working in varying weather conditions. Team members should be comfortable working around heavy machinery, loud noise, and dusty conditions, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as part of the standard dress and safety requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kent, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
