Job Description

Job Description We are looking for a proactive and reliable Yard Manager with a valid CDL-A to join our rapidly growing Illinois-based OTR trucking company. The Yard Manager will be responsible for managing daily yard operations, controlling equipment movement, supporting driver orientation, communicating with vendors, and making sure trucks and trailers are ready for OTR operations. This position is a good fit for someone with real trucking experience, strong communication skills, and a hands-on approach to fleet and yard management.
Current Fleet size:
60 trucks Responsibilities Manage daily yard operations for trucks and trailers. Control equipment release and return. Inspect trucks and trailers when they arrive at or leave the yard. Prepare equipment for OTR operations, including decals, GPS, registration items, permits, and other required setup. Support fleet management with daily equipment updates. Communicate with drivers, dispatch, fleet managers, mechanics, and repair shops. Maintain relationships with maintenance vendors and repair shops. Coordinate truck and trailer repairs, inspections, and service needs. Lead CDL-A driver road tests. Assist with driver orientation and explain company equipment-use policies. Help ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and company safety requirements. Manage company yard inventory, including tires, chains, tire racks, tools, supplies, and other equipment. Monitor yard cleanliness, organization, and equipment parking. Report equipment issues, damage, missing items, or policy violations to Fleet Manager. Qualifications Valid CDL-A license. > 1 year of experience as a CDL-A Driver / Fleet Manager / Mechanic / Yard manager or mechanic preferred. OTR trucking experience strongly preferred. Understanding of OTR trucking operations and CDL-A driver needs. Knowledge of truck and trailer equipment - Freightliner and Kenworth. Basic understanding of
FMCSA/DOT
requirements. Ability to communicate clearly with management, drivers, repair shops, and vendors. Hands-on attitude and ability to solve problems quickly. Ability to move around the yard, inspect equipment, climb in and out of trucks, and work outdoors when needed. Authorized to work in the United States. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who understands OTR trucking from the inside, knows how to communicate with drivers, is comfortable around trucks and trailers, and can keep the yard organized, controlled, and ready for daily operations.
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
