Job Description

Shipping & Receiving Manager Steel Warehouse - Hickory, NC Steel Warehouse is seeking an experienced, hands-on Shipping & Receiving Manager to lead all shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations at our Hickory, NC facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely movement of incoming and outgoing materials while leading a team focused on customer service, operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and continuous improvement. Essential Responsibilities Lead all daily shipping, receiving, warehouse, and material handling operations. Supervise, coach, and develop shipping, receiving, and warehouse personnel while fostering a positive, accountable work environment. Ensure all customer shipments are processed accurately and shipped on time. Coordinate incoming and outgoing freight with customers, carriers, and internal departments. Collaborate with Production, Scheduling, Sales, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure efficient material flow throughout the facility. Monitor shipping schedules and proactively resolve issues that could impact customer deliveries. Ensure inventory accuracy through proper receiving, storage, material movement, cycle counts, and transaction integrity. Oversee the preservation, identification, and handling of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods. Monitor department performance and drive improvements in safety, productivity, quality, and on-time delivery. Analyze operational metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while promoting a strong safety culture. Conduct employee coaching, performance evaluations, attendance management, and disciplinary actions as needed. Assist with staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and training of department employees. Perform other duties as assigned in support of plant operations. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics operations within a manufacturing environment. Strong leadership, communication, and employee development skills. Experience coordinating shipping schedules, freight carriers, and warehouse operations. Knowledge of inventory control and material handling practices. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP/Warehouse Management systems. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field. Experience in steel processing, metals manufacturing, or industrial manufacturing. Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance. Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience. Experience leading multiple shifts or large warehouse teams. Forklift and overhead crane experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership with the ability to motivate and develop employees. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Strong customer service mindset. $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
