Job Description

Job Title:
Yard Manager Job Description The Yard Manager oversees daily yard operations and ensures a smooth, efficient workflow across the facility. This role combines hands-on yard work with administrative responsibilities, including supervision of staff, coordination of production activities, and oversight of inventory, shipping, and receiving. The position offers a Monday-Friday schedule with flexible hours, either 6:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with flexibility throughout the day. The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, and able to make quick, practical decisions to support the team and maintain equipment effectively. Responsibilities Oversee all daily yard operations to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow. Supervise and support yard staff within a workforce that typically ranges from 40 to 60 employees. Monitor daily and weekly production activities to ensure operational goals and timelines are met. Coordinate and manage shipping and receiving activities to maintain accurate and timely movement of materials. Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure proper organization and storage of materials in the yard. Perform and oversee yard work, including equipment operation and general upkeep of the yard area. Operate skid steers and other yard machinery safely and efficiently as part of daily operations. Develop, follow, and adjust maintenance schedules for yard equipment to minimize downtime. Make quick, common-sense decisions regarding equipment maintenance and repairs to keep operations running smoothly. Apply strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and manage time effectively. Use management skills to provide clear direction, support team performance, and promote a safe, efficient work environment. Collaborate with other departments as needed to align yard activities with overall operational needs. Complete administrative duties related to yard operations, such as tracking production, inventory, and equipment maintenance. Essential Skills Proven experience in warehouse or yard management with responsibility for daily operations. Strong supervision skills with the ability to oversee and support a team in a busy yard environment. Hands-on experience with yard work, including material handling and general yard operations. Experience in shipping and receiving processes, including coordination of inbound and outbound materials. Ability to manage and track inventory accurately in a yard or warehouse setting. Strong mechanical skills with the ability to understand, operate, and support maintenance of yard equipment. Ability to safely and effectively operate skid steers and other yard machinery. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Strong common-sense problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, practical decisions. Effective management skills to coordinate people, processes, and equipment in a fast-paced environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is beneficial and considered a strong asset. Experience working in an environment that combines yard operations with administrative duties. Comfort working in an outdoor setting in varying weather conditions. The environment involves regular operation of skid steers and other machinery, as well as exposure to varying weather conditions. The position combines physical yard work with administrative tasks, requiring comfort moving between equipment operation, supervision in the yard, and office-based duties. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Fargo, ND.
