To provide each school child with food of nutritious quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring. Supervises Head Cooks (shared responsibility with Principal/Teacher-In-Charge)
Supervises Warehouse Staff Education/Training Experience:
Technical training and experience in Cafeteria Managerial Services and related areas. Background and preferably training in nutrition and menu preparation. Knowledge in Federal and State Regulations applicable to Lunch Reimbursement, Commodities, Reporting, Etc.
Bilingual Preferred, Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Possesses knowledge of methods, techniques, supplies, materials, and equipment utilized in the operation of the cafeteria; knowledge of policies, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the cafeteria; safe operation of tools and equipment of the cafeteria; ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain a cooperative relationship with co-workers with little or no supervision; ability to be courteous to students, staff, and the general public. Plan and direct the work of others and formulate and carry out a plan for projects. Use common courtesy in the course of duties. Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): Standard Office Equipment. Basic Office Computer program abilities. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher)
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Regularly required to walk, talk and listen. Frequently is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.
Environmental Conditions:
Frequent travel between schools and offices. The noise level in this position varies. When visiting a building the noise level may be loud; in the office, quiet and at meetings moderate. Heavy telephone contact and meeting schedule. Dealings with people may include individuals who are distraught, angry or hostile.
Essential Job Functions:
All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District. Current essential functions include but are not limited to the following: Prepares and administers the departmental budget. Purchases and maintains an inventory of al foods, supplies, and equipment. Plans and supervises the preparation and serving of menus at all schools. Informs the public, through the local press, of planned lunch menus on a weekly basis. Checks all menus for school lunches and special dinners. Standardizes as much as possible the size of portions served as related to lunch type. Inspects school lunch facilities and operations to ensure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety, are being maintained. Visits all lunchrooms and cafeterias as often as possible, checking that high standards of health and safety are maintained and observing possible improvements in operations. Reviews and evaluates all requests and recommendations for the purchase of new and replacement equipment. Checks all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them to the business manager for payment. Makes all applications for federal subsidies. Makes application for government surplus food for school cafeteria use, and directs its distribution and transfer. Plans disposition of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service program. Prepares specifications and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids by law or board policy. Operates a program of cooperative purchasing among cafeterias, particularly for high-volume items such as bread, milk, and canned goods. Keeps patrons and public informed of the menus and services offered by the school cafeterias, and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the school food service program, Prepares financial reports and claims for reimbursement, required by the State Department. Ensure students have a nutritious /healthy breakfast and lunch regardless of income Ensure and maintain direct certification for CED Ensure mandatory record production books are being done at all school sites. Ensure all diet scripts are being followed. Provide in service training for cooks and head cooks. On site monitoring of all kitchens twice yearly Monitor
