Job Description
The Next Gen Control Tower Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership and overall performance of Control Tower operations across freight in, inventory management, capacity planning, and store support. This role ensures the end-to-end flow of products from vendors to distribution centers and stores is executed efficiently, reliably, and in alignment with business objectives. The Operations Manager serves as the senior operational point of accountability, leading supervisors and specialists while coordinating across internal teams, distribution centers, vendors, and store operations. This role drives data-based decision making, proactive risk management, standardization of processes, and continuous improvement to ensure service level attainment, inventory accuracy, and operational readiness—particularly during large scale disruptions such as weather events, capacity constraints, or service failures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for Control Tower and Store Support Command Center operations.
- Lead and manage supervisors and operational teams to ensure execution, accountability, and consistent performance.
- Ensure all tasks, exceptions, and escalations are tracked, prioritized, and resolved in accordance with SLAs.
- Own communication cadence between warehouses, logistics, TJ Ops, and store operations.
- Oversee Control Center functions including store processing, launches, faulty processing, door closures, DO line clearance, and order adjustments.
- Ensure operational logs, dashboards, and reporting are accurate, timely, and executive ready
- Deliver weekly, biweekly, and executive level performance reporting to senior leadership, including General Managers and Regional Managers.
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to service levels, inventory accuracy, capacity utilization, and vendor performance.
- Provide immediate escalation and leadership communications during critical events or operational disruptions. Ensure receiving, dock management, and warehouse processes are functioning consistently and in compliance with standard procedures.
- Provide enterprise level oversight of warehouse appointment scheduling, capacity planning, and flow management.
- Review depot level capacity by DC and take corrective action to mitigate overbooking, underutilization, or congestion risks.
- Oversee allocation and transfer execution (DC to DC) to ensure timelines, preparation, and receipt standards are met.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to develop and maintain rolling demand and supply plans supporting cross dock, inventoried, transfer, and import flows
- Maintain accountability for inventory accuracy targets and JIT reporting compliance across DCs
- Lead advanced analysis of operational data including production schedules, reconciliation reports, capacity utilization, and delivery performance.
- Translate data trends into strategic recommendations and actionable improvement initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting cost reduction, service optimization, and efficiency gains.
- Ensure teams are leveraging Excel, reporting tools, and relational databases consistently and effectively.
- Act as the primary operational partner to Logistics, Warehousing, Inventory Control, Operations, TJ Ops, and Project Management.
- Own vendor performance management in collaboration with TJ Ops and Procurement.
- Support vendor negotiations by providing performance insights, root cause analysis, and operational recommendations.
- Oversee vendor onboarding strategies to ensure alignment with service, capacity, and inventory objectives.
- Lead operational response planning and execution during weather events, capacity shortages, construction impacts, or service disruptions.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for high risk or high impact operational events.
- Ensure proactive communication and cross-functional alignment during incidents and recovery efforts.
Qualifications:
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and performance management capabilities.
- Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills with executive level communication ability.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, datasets, reporting).
- Strong working knowledge of WMS, RMS, and supply chain reporting systems.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple functions and leadership levels.
- Proven experience driving operational change and continuous improvement.
- 5+ years of experience in supply chain, logistics, Control Tower, or distribution operations. Prior experience leading supervisors or operational teams required.
- Strong background in inventory management, capacity planning, transportation, or warehouse operations preferred.
