$72.5K-$78K Position Summary The Receiving Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, accuracy, and execution of inbound operations within the distribution center. This role oversees receiving from inbound scheduling and unloading through verification, quality inspection, system receipt, staging, and put-away. The Receiving Manager leads and develops the Receiving Supervisor, Lead, associates, and equipment operators while ensuring strong standards for safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, quality, and accountability. This position partners closely with Warehouse, Inventory, Purchasing, Operations, vendors, and carriers to resolve issues and continuously improve inbound performance. Key Responsibilities Receiving Operations Manage daily receiving operations, including scheduling, unloading, staging, scanning, verification, system receipt, and put-away. Ensure inbound product is accurately received against purchase orders, bills of lading, and company procedures. Maintain an organized inbound flow to minimize dock congestion, receiving delays, and unnecessary product handling. Coordinate receiving and put-away priorities based on volume, warehouse capacity, inventory needs, and operational priorities. Ensure open receiving issues and discrepancies are researched, documented, and resolved timely. Leadership & Labor Management Lead, coach, and develop the Receiving Supervisor, Lead, associates, and equipment operators. Establish clear expectations for safety, accuracy, productivity, attendance, and accountability. Develop frontline leadership to independently manage daily execution, associate performance, and workload priorities. Ensure proper onboarding, training, cross-training, and ongoing development of the Receiving team. Address performance concerns consistently and partner with Human Resources when appropriate. Plan staffing and labor requirements based on inbound volume and business needs while managing productivity and overtime. Inventory Accuracy & System Control Ensure timely and accurate completion of inbound transactions within the company's WMS/ERP system, including NetSuite where applicable. Maintain controls to prevent incorrect quantities, duplicate receipts, incorrect models, and inaccurate inventory locations. Partner with Inventory Control to research receiving-related variances, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. Ensure merchandise is physically and systematically accounted for throughout receiving and put-away. Support cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and operational audits as needed. Quality Assurance & Vendor Accountability Maintain inbound quality standards and ensure merchandise is properly inspected before entering available inventory. Ensure damages, shortages, overages, incorrect products, packaging issues, and other discrepancies are properly identified and documented. Ensure damaged or non-conforming merchandise is appropriately segregated and dispositioned. Track recurring vendor, manufacturer, and carrier issues and communicate concerns to appropriate internal and external partners. Maintain a Vendor Receiving Scorecard evaluating shipment accuracy, product condition, packaging, documentation, and recurring discrepancies. Partner with Purchasing, Inventory, and Operations to establish corrective actions and hold vendors or carriers accountable for recurring issues. Drive initiatives to reduce inbound damage, discrepancies, rework, inventory adjustments, and preventable operational costs. Safety & Compliance Own safety performance and compliance within the Receiving department. Ensure associates follow company safety policies and material-handling procedures. Ensure forklifts, clamp trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment are operated by properly trained and authorized associates. Conduct routine safety and 5S inspections and maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free docks and staging areas. Ensure safety concerns are addressed promptly and corrective actions are completed. Support internal audits and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement Establish and monitor department KPIs, including receiving accuracy, dock-to-stock time, throughput, labor productivity, damages, discrepancies, vendor performance, and safety. Review performance trends and establish action plans for recurring gaps. Provide regular department performance updates to senior operations leadership. Develop and maintain Receiving SOPs and standardized work processes. Identify opportunities to improve product flow, productivity, accuracy, safety, and labor efficiency. Conduct root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions result in sustained improvement. Cross-Functional Partnership Partner with Warehouse and Inventory leadership to ensure timely movement and accurate storage of received merchandise. Work with Purchasing and other partners to resolve purchase order, vendor, and shipment discrepancies. Communicate inbound delays, capacity concerns, shortages, damages, and other risks that may impact inventory availability or customer orders. Maintain productive relationships with vendors, carriers, drivers, and internal business partners. Ensure Receiving priorities remain aligned with overall distribution center objectives. Qualifications 5+ years of warehouse receiving, distribution, logistics, or related experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role. Demonstrated experience leading teams in a high-volume distribution environment. Strong knowledge of receiving, inventory control, put-away, and material-handling processes. Experience with WMS/ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred. Experience managing KPIs, labor productivity, and performance improvement. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and follow-up skills. Ability to develop associates while maintaining clear performance accountability. High school diploma or GED required; additional education in logistics, supply chain, or operations management preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly. Ability to work around powered industrial equipment and in warehouse conditions with varying temperatures and noise levels.
