Lafayette, IN Primary Purpose of Role The Assistant Materials Manager supports the Materials Manager in planning, coordinating, and controlling material requirements for manufacturing operations. This role ensures a consistent flow of approved materials aligned with production schedules and customer delivery commitments. The position plays a key role in demand planning, supply planning, inventory accuracy, and on time delivery performance. Key Responsibilities Sales & Operations Planning — Assist in developing the Demand Plan based on sales backlog. Supply Planning — Support creation of the Supply Plan using production inputs. Plant Shipment Goals — Contribute by driving monthly shipments to meet AOP goals Forecasting — Support forecast throughout the month. S&OP Implementation — Support ongoing S&OP rollout, including forecasting and inventory management improvements. Material Planner Management — Support Material Planners and oversee supplier releases. Daily Shipment Coordination — Partner with Customer Service to ensure timely shipments. Cycle Counting — Support cycle count programs to ensure inventory accuracy. System Improvements — Support continuous improvement of material management systems. On‑Time Delivery Support — Contribute to achieving customer OTD goals. Aftermarket performance — Contribute and drive AFM channel to meet customer needs. Competencies and Behaviors Strong understanding of MPS/MRP systems (SAP preferred) and ability to integrate with JIT and Lean Manufacturing principles. Strong effective leadership skills Ability to apply continuous improvement tools such as pull systems, process mapping, and JIT. Effective communication and presentation skills across all organizational levels. Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and diverse backgrounds. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to read production drawings and understand manufacturing processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to meet physical requirements:
frequent walking, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, and standing. Strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrated ability to participate in goal setting, performance feedback, and self‑development. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience. Minimum 5 years of management experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Work Relationships This position interacts frequently with machine operators, schedulers/coordinators, buyers, manufacturing engineers, internal customer service teams, customers and external sales representatives.
