Job Description
Supervisor Level I Position Summary The Supervisor Level 1 is responsible for planning and coordinating all material flow activities across inventory control, stockroom and shipping to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations, accurate inventory management and on-time shipments. This role is responsible inventory control and inventory accuracy, provides hands-on support as well as plans, coordinates, and directs daily Stores operations to maintain workflow continuity, inventory accuracy, and service to internal customers. This position leads, trains, and provides direct supervision and support to assigned employees, enforces work standards, and promotes a safe, organized, and team-oriented work environment. The Supervisor works in areas where forklifts and other powered industrial equipment are in use and is responsible for enforcing safe material-handling practices, traffic controls, and certification requirements. When operating powered industrial equipment, this role is considered safety-critical and must comply with OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910.178) and all company safety policies. Essential Functions and Basic Duties 1. 1. Leadership, Employee Management and Cross-Functional Collaboration. • Provide supervision to assigned stockroom and shipping personnel. • Manage daily work to ensure efficient use of personnel, equipment and space to meet the needs of manufacturing and shipping. Provide instruction, training, coaching and feedback to department employees to ensure proper procedures and quality standards are followed. Evaluate employee performance through coaching, feedback, and performance reviews. Maintain a positive and professional work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Resolve operational problems or employee concerns within the scope of responsibility and report complex issues to management, as needed. Participate in cross-functional initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency, and service improvement. Provide regular reporting to management regarding inventory accuracy, material flow performance and operational risks. 2. Material Flow Operations Provides hands-on operational support as a working supervisor performing tasks in the stockroom, shipping and manufacturing floor when required. Plan, coordinate, and oversee stockroom, shipping, and material movement activities to support manufacturing and order fulfillment. Establish, implement, monitor and enforce standard work practices to ensure consistent and efficient material flow throughout the facility. Coordinate material priorities to meet changing production demands and customer requirements. Recommend and implement improvements in material handling, storage efficiency, and inventory processes. Oversee coordination with carriers and logistics providers and ensures all shipments are prepared accurately, labeled correctly, and accompanied by proper documentation for on-time deliveries and pickups. 3. Inventory Control and System Accuracy Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts, audits, reconciliation activities, and year-end physical inventories. Create, implement, and maintain inventory and process procedures. Establish, implement and monitor best practices to ensure system integrity. Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies between system quantities and physical inventory and resolve pending system transaction errors. Review material cost variances, correct discrepancies, and document reasons for variances. Monitor inventory levels, remove expired inventory, and process nonconforming material. • Correct negative inventory balances, over-receipts, receiving errors, picker errors and related system transactions to maintain inventory accuracy and proper material flow. Ensure all material transactions are coded correctly so appropriate departments are credited or charged. Ensure that all inventory transactions are recorded accurately in company systems. 4. Safety, Forklift Use, and Compliance Promote and enforce compliance with company safety policies and procedures. Ensure employees are trained and certified in the safe operation of forklifts and powered industrial trucks (PIT). Enforce traffic patterns, load-handling practices, and safe material-staging procedures. When required to operate forklifts or PIT equipment, comply with OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910.178) and company certification requirements. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas to reduce risk and improve efficiency. Education/Certification High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or related field is preferred but not required.
