Terminal Generalist Supervisor Location:
Jacksonville, FL Department:
Operations / Terminal Management Role Overview We are seeking a proactive and results-driven Terminal Generalist Supervisor to lead day-to-day terminal operations while driving performance, compliance, and continuous improvement. This role combines hands-on operational expertise with strong leadership, ensuring cargo flow efficiency, regulatory adherence, and team development. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this leader will oversee a team of Terminal Generalists, optimize processes, and serve as a key liaison across internal teams and external regulatory agencies to deliver operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Perform and oversee all Terminal Generalist duties, ensuring seamless cargo movement and issue resolution. Lead, coach, and mentor the Terminal Generalist team to exceed operational and customer expectations. Coordinate team schedules, manage timekeeping, and ensure compliance with company policies. Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and development support. Terminal Operations & Compliance Ensure accurate handling and processing of hazardous cargo in compliance with CFR regulations and company procedures. Monitor and update hazardous segregation and cargo data within TOS systems to prevent operational delays. Act as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard, Customs & Border Protection, USDA) for inspections, holds, and releases. Maintain strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards (ISO and Integrated Management Systems). Process Improvement & Performance Management Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and efficiency. Analyze terminal KPIs, identify performance trends, and implement data-driven solutions to improve outcomes. Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions. Audit purchasing practices and operational contracts to ensure efficiency and compliance. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with internal departments (Operations, Risk, Customer Service, Sales) to resolve issues and improve service delivery. Support claim mitigation efforts by gathering operational data for the Risk Management team. Enhance communication and alignment across business units to drive operational success. Financial & Vendor Oversight Review and approve invoices, ensuring accurate GL coding for terminal-related expenses. Serve as primary contact for facility maintenance vendors and manage vendor performance. Monitor and control departmental expenditures in alignment with budget expectations. Team Engagement & Culture Foster a high-performance team culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and customer service. Lead employee recognition initiatives to celebrate team achievements and contributions. Address performance concerns promptly and in accordance with company policies. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor s degree in Business, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience). Strong experience in terminal operations, logistics, or transportation environments. Prior leadership or supervisory experience required. Skills & Competencies Advanced knowledge of freight movement, shipping documentation, tariff rules, and regulatory requirements. Strong leadership and team development capabilities with a passion for coaching others. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel preferred) and Terminal Operating Systems (TOS). Experience with Tideworks (Mainsail, Spinnaker, Forecast) preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Work Environment & Expectations Works under moderate supervision with the ability to exercise independent judgment. Handles operational data requiring discretion and professionalism. Physical & Visual Requirements Primarily sedentary work with occasional light physical activity. Extensive use of computer systems, data analysis tools, and operational software.
