Job Description

Online Transport is growing fast, and we know that sustainable growth starts with drivers who feel supported, informed, and genuinely set up to win. The Driver Development Manager exists to make that happen. From the moment a new hire signs their offer letter to the day they're fully independent on the road, you're their go-to person — their translator, their coach, and their biggest advocate inside the company. This isn't a passive onboarding role. It's a high-touch, high-impact position for someone who understands that great retention starts with a great first impression — and that a driver who feels seen and supported in week one is a driver who stays for years.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Pre-Employment & Orientation Guide new hires through pre-employment checklists and ensure they arrive at orientation informed, prepared, and ready to hit the ground running. Develop deep expertise in our orientation process so you can answer questions, fill gaps, and set realistic expectations before a driver ever touches a steering wheel. Facilitate orientation sessions, delivering key information, reinforcing company expectations, and creating a positive and professional first impression of the organization. Driver Development & Coaching (First 90 Days) Conduct daily check-in calls with drivers in your fleet to answer questions, provide encouragement, and get ahead of concerns before they become problems. Serve as the primary Driver Advocate — if a driver has an issue, you're their first call. Coach drivers on core success skills including: Hours of Service (HOS) management, Time-at-home planning and work/life balance, Samsara workflow and in-cab technology and Safety habits, compliance, and performance coaching Operations & Communication Coordinate and communicate load plans with drivers, providing trip planning assistance, customer location guidance, and operational support to ensure on-time and efficient service. Take proactive steps to prevent service failures; analyze and address root causes when they occur. Keep Account Managers and Customer Specialists updated on delivery status, accessorial charges, and available hours. Communicate with customers and internal departments on pickups, deliveries, and any issues — with a solutions-first approach. Continuous Improvement Partner with the Director of Driver Engagement and cross-functional teams to continuously refine the onboarding experience. Identify new ways to improve driver retention, satisfaction, and long-term performance. Manage fleet cost functions with an eye toward quality outcomes and efficiency.
WHO YOU ARE
You have a genuine passion for people development — you find energy in helping others succeed, especially those navigating a new industry or a big career change. You are proactive, not reactive — you don't wait for drivers to struggle; you check in before problems arise. You communicate clearly and with empathy, whether on the phone with a nervous new hire or in a cross-departmental meeting. You can manage multiple drivers simultaneously, stay organized, and keep detailed records without being micromanaged. You bring patience and a positive attitude even on the hard days.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior CDL-A driving experience or direct experience working with commercial drivers in a coaching, dispatch, or safety capacity with a driver first mentality. Familiarity with Samsara (fleet management/ELD platform). Experience with TMW Suite (Transportation Management Software) Proficiency in Microsoft Office — Word, Excel, and Outlook. Great attitude, strong troubleshooting instincts, and the ability to work independently. Exceptional at both driver and customer relations.
