Job Description

Position Summary The Fleet Manager is responsible for the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment within the assigned area, in alignment with corporate objectives. ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

Oversee maintenance and repair operations for Class 8 commercial vehicles, including front-load, rear-load, roll-off, automated side-load, and other specialize vocational equipmentEnsure proper diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension components, and emission control systemsDevelop and monitor preventative maintenance schedules to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtimeReview repair orders, work quality, labor efficiency, and parts utilization to ensure cost-effective maintenance operationsMonitor equipment lifecycle costs and make recommendations regarding replacement, refurbishment, and capital expendituresMaintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations relating to fleet maintenance operationsCoordinate emergency repairs and equipment recovery efforts as necessary.

Manage outside vendors and service providers to ensure quality repairs and competitive pricingEvaluate shop productivity metrics, vehicle availability, maintenance costs, and downtime trends to drive continuous improvementEnsure mechanics are properly trained on Class 8 truck systems, diesel diagnostics, hydraulic troubleshooting, and emerging vehicle technologiesSupervisory ResponsibilitiesMechanics and Operational Support staff
Skills and Knowledge RequirementsEducation:
Bachelors degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) or High School Equivalency and six (6) years of relevant work experience.
Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible fleet maintenance experience with Class 8 trucks, heavy-duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and vocational equipment, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management capacityCertificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other RequirementsExperience utilizing fleet maintenance software and vehicle management systemsKnowledge of DOT inspection requirements, compliance standards, and maintenance recordkeepingExtensive knowledge of Class 8 trucks, heavy-duty diesel engines, hydraulic systems, vocational truck equipment, preventative maintenance programs, diagnostic procedures, and fleet safety practices.

Must possess good organizational skills and work independently.

Preferred Experience and QualificationsValid CDL A drivers license with a clean driving record preferred.

Previous experience managing multiple maintenance facilities and mobile maintenance operationsExperience with automated refuse collection equipment, compactors, hydraulic packer systems, and vocational truck bodies preferredProven track record of reducing maintenance costs while improving fleet uptime and reliabilityPerformanceAttendance and punctuality according to the work schedule are a must and are vital to the operations of the rest of the company.

Full time hours, additional hours may be needed.

Physical RequirementsRequired to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, tools etc.) most of the workday.

Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds.

Occasional exposure to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.)Occasional exposure to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements.
