MEET UPPER LAKES FOODS
Upper Lakes Foods is the largest independent, wholesale food distributor in Minnesota. The company has three facilities located in Cloquet, MN, Northfield, MN and Janesville, WI. We distribute food throughout the Upper Midwest. Upper Lakes Foods specializes in serving foodservice operators such as independent restaurants, assisted living facilities, schools, and national and regional foodservice chain accounts with a strong focus on customer service. THE GIG As Transportation Supervisor in Northfield, you'll keep our delivery operation running smooth, safe, and DOT-ready-so customers get what they need, when they need it. Key responsibilities
  • Lead and coach delivery drivers; set performance benchmarks and complete annual reviews
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and road tests for driver candidates
  • Partner with Logistics on routing and daily driver scheduling to hit service expectations
  • Audit driver files and DOT/ULF documentation; ensure accurate completion and retention
  • Review operational reports (daily/weekly/monthly) to track performance and adjust headcount
  • Address driver concerns, customer issues, and corrective action with HR as needed
  • Promote safe work practices and implement process improvements that help drivers succeed Required skills/experience
  • 3+ years in transportation/logistics; prior supervision preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations and practical application
  • Experience with routing and scheduling in a daily food delivery environment
  • Microsoft Office; excellent organization, communication, and self-direction
  • Valid Class A CDL preferred
YOUR DAILY ROUTE MAP
You'll start by checking staffing and the day's delivery plan, then touch base with Logistics and the warehouse to keep timing tight. Throughout the day you'll bounce between quick driver check-ins, paperwork spot-checks, and coaching moments that keep safety and service on track. When a curveball hits-weather, call-ins, a customer concern-you'll triage calmly, document cleanly, and keep things moving. Most days are daytime, with the occasional overnight depending on coverage. You'll wrap up by scanning key reports and lining up tomorrow's needs so the team is ready to roll.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONWORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office environment with desks, chairs, computer equipment/monitors, overhead shelvesfiling cabinets. Sitting/Standing at workstation 50% of the time; standing/Walking away from workstation 50% of time; frequent telephone and face to face interaction; work includes walking through noisy warehouse environment. Work may include driving tractor trailer and delivering product. Schedule may vary; must be available to work weekends and holidays with little notice. Travel up to 25% of time.
