Job Description

Position Summary The Fleet Manager - Floriculture Operations is responsible for the oversight, performance, and compliance of all company-owned and third-party rented vehicles and heavy equipment used in the transport, handling, and distribution of the company's greenhouse products and supplies. This includes managing delivery trucks, tractors, forklifts, field equipment, and specialized vehicles used in greenhouse and field operations. The Fleet Manager ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations across company drivers, truck drivers, and independent contractors. This role oversees maintenance, logistics coordination, compliance with DOT, OSHA, and agricultural transport regulations, and vendor relationships. The position requires a mix of operational leadership, compliance expertise, and logistical planning to support reliable supply chain operations from greenhouse to customer. Core Responsibilities and Duties Fleet Operations Maintain status and functionality of the fleet, including delivery trucks, service vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment. Manage utilization of vehicles and equipment to support inbound and outbound product deliveries. Develop and implement fleet management policies and procedures for efficient, compliant, and safe operations. Track asset performance including fuel usage, mileage, operating costs, and uptime to ensure optimal productivity. Maintenance and Equipment Management Establish preventive maintenance programs for vehicles, heavy equipment, and greenhouse machinery . Coordinate maintenance and repairs through internal technicians or external vendors to minimize downtime. Ensure all equipment and vehicles are properly licensed, registered, and inspected in accordance with agricultural and transportation laws. Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all assets, including rented and leased vehicles. Support procurement and lifecycle management decisions for new equipment acquisitions and retirements. Compliance and Safety Oversight Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state agricultural transport regulations. Maintain driver qualification files, vehicle inspection records, and compliance documentation. Implement and monitor driver safety programs including vehicle inspections, pre-trip reporting, and compliance training. Manage accident investigations, claims reporting, and corrective action plans. Conduct safety audits and coordinate regular safety meetings focused on agricultural logistics hazards (e.g., load securement, dust exposure, and machinery operation). Driver and Contractor Management Onboard company-employed drivers and equipment operators in coordination with HR and operator registration procedures Enforce driver policies on vehicle operation, cargo handling, and delivery procedures specific greenhouse goods. Manage relationships with independent contractors and third-party logistics providers to ensure compliance, reliability, and cost control Vendor, Rental, and Partner Coordination Manage relationships with vehicle leasing and heavy equipment rental companies to ensure availability, service quality, and compliance with contracts. Negotiate rates and terms with vendors for rentals, maintenance, and parts. Coordinate inspections and maintenance tracking for rented vehicles and equipment. Maintain partnerships with logistics vendors and agricultural product carriers for overflow or seasonal delivery needs. Financial and Administrative Management Prepare and manage the annual fleet operations budget, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, and leasing costs. Review and reconcile vendor invoices and rental charges for processing. Identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction. Provide regular fleet performance and cost analysis reports to senior management.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Agricultural Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of fleet management experience, preferably in the agricultural, food distribution, or wholesale industry.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and EPA regulations as they apply to agricultural transport and equipment. Familiarity with handling and transporting bulk horticultural products Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS tracking, and maintenance systems. Knowledge of vehicle and heavy equipment leasing, rental, and maintenance agreements.
Licensing/Certifications:
Valid driver's license required; CDL (Class A or B) preferred. Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or equivalent credential a plus Desired Competencies Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage both employee drivers and independent contractors. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, particularly under seasonal or high-volume conditions. Analytical and data-driven decision-making skills for cost control and efficiency improvements. Proactive approach to problem-solving, with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with greenhouse production, operations and sales teams Adaptability and composure under pressure, particularly during peak distribution seasons. Customer-service mindset with a commitment to reliability and on-time delivery. Negotiation and vendor management skills to maintain favorable terms and service levels. Physical and Work Environment Requirements Work may be divided between office and greenhouse environments Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs and perform vehicle and equipment inspections. Exposure to outdoor agricultural environments, including dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends during peak seasons or emergencies.
Pay:
$95,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
