Director of Transportation Education Service Center 52 weeks per year 8.5 hours per day, which includes eight hours of paid work time and 30 minutes of unpaid lunch time Job level 3, Terms and Conditions of Employment for Program Directors Annual salary of $74,341 to $91,322 with full time benefits Position Overview The Assistant Director of Transportation supports the Director of Transportation in overseeing the planning, coordination, and operation of student transportation services. This leadership role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant transportation, while supervising staff, managing routes and budgets, and collaborating with schools, parents, and external contractors. Key Responsibilities Assist in managing all aspects of student transportation operations, including bus routes, schedules, activity trips, and charter services. Coordinate student bus needs and communicate adjustments promptly to families and staff. Supervise, train, and evaluate transportation staff. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including safety and IDEA requirements. Collaborate with building administrators, Special Education, and other district staff to resolve transportation-related issues and support student needs. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and board transportation policies, including IDEA requirements. Maintain accurate transportation records, including routing, billing, trip sheets, and incident reports. Support budget management, cost analysis, and planning for transportation resources and capital improvements. Investigate and resolve transportation complaints, discipline issues, and operational challenges. Assist in developing policies, procedures, and long-term planning for efficient transportation services. Promote teamwork, problem-solving, and positive public relations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business, transportation, logistics, education, or related field preferred. 5+ years of experience in student transportation, logistics, or fleet management; supervisory experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety requirements. Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency with routing software, transportation databases, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Ability to collaborate with diverse populations, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively under pressure.
