Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Schools Administration Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.
EVALUATION
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Deputy Superintendent and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and KCSBOE Policy Performance Evaluation of School Personnel - Administrative Procedures.
JOB SUMMARY
To plan and implement the pupil transportation system for Kanawha County Schools within the regulations established by the State and the Kanawha County Board of Education; to develop and implement bus routes and procedures for the efficient delivery of students within the school system and to activities approved for participation outside the system; to organize and execute appropriate programs of in-service education and safety for employees of the department; to develop programs of bus safety for use in classrooms of the system; to compile and produce a composite manual of transportation policies; to establish a maintenance program that will provide for safe operation of school buses for transporting students to and from schools.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee working for Kanawha County Schools is expected to comply with all the Kanawha County Schools Policies and Procedures, including maintaining regular attendance and completing all required training. Employees are required to follow all safety rules to maintain a safe workplace.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Duties. Work with school principals and school secretaries when transportation issues arise. Assist the Executive Director with pupil discipline Post daily bus changes on the KCS website and social media platforms. Use KCS communications tool to directly notify stakeholders of bus and route changes. Develop professional development opportunities for supervisors, clerks, bus operators and bus aides. Maintain field trips request software used for scheduling and invoicing trips. Assign drivers and buses for curricular and extra-curricular transportation activities. Develop a system to equally assign field trips to all Kanawha County School drivers and aides willing to take trips outside of their normal workday. Assist schools with curricular and extra-curricular transportation requests. Plan and implement the pupil transportation system for Kanawha County Schools within the regulations established by the State and the Kanawha County Board of Education. Assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing bus routes and procedures for the efficient delivery of students within the school system and to activities approved for participation outside the system. Submit monthly field trip statistics necessary for references for the county and state reports. Organize and promotes school bus safety for all Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Works with the executive director and transportation supervisors in assuring compliance with Board policy and administrative regulations. Gain a general understanding of all the Kanawha County School daily routes. Assists the Executive Director with pupil discipline cases; assists in making decisions regarding expulsion of students from buses. Assists transportation supervisors with special problems, scheduling, and supervision of buses and drivers. Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Transportation. When needed drive or aide on a bus route if a qualified substitute is not available. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree preferred with a major emphasis in administration, business, public administration or transportation engineering or a combination of education and relevant work experience in transportation engineering. Minimum one year of successful school administrative experience. Obtain a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License within one calendar year of employment. Knowledge of West Virginia School Law, School Business Operations, Personnel and Transportation. Ability to organize and administer the pupil transportation system.
