Job Description
Assistant Supervisor of Nutrition and Transportation Services Position begins as soon as possible
Reports To:
Supervisor of Nutrition Services and Supervisor of Transportation Services Contract Length:
220 days - Salary commensurate with experience - Benefits Job Goal The Assistant Supervisor of Nutrition and Transportation Services participates in the leadership, coordination, and daily operations of the district's Nutrition and Transportation departments. This position collaborates with other administrative team members and directs and supervises non-licensed food service and transportation staff in ensuring safe, efficient, compliant, and high-quality services for students and staff while promoting strong customer service, operational effectiveness, and alignment with district goals. This role serves as a key connector across departments, supporting communication, training, compliance, and problem-solving to ensure both systems operate smoothly and responsively. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Nutrition Services Participate in the administration and supervision of the district's food service program and personnel in compliance with USDA and state regulations Collaborate with Supervisor in menu planning, nutritional analysis, and compliance with dietary restrictions and food allergies Provide guidance to staff on food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures (HACCP compliance) Provide training and onboarding of nutrition services staff and kitchen managers Conduct site visits to kitchens to monitor quality, safety, cleanliness, and customer service standards Collaborate with Supervisor for catering, special events, and program implementation Participate in decisions affecting inventory, ordering, and recordkeeping (production records, inventory controls, etc.) Collaborate on wellness initiatives and support district wellness committee efforts Seek and administer grant opportunities and program enhancements Transportation Participate in the administration and supervision of the student transportation program and personnel in accordance with state and federal laws and safety regulations Collaborate with Supervisor in the routing, scheduling, and assignment of drivers Participate in the coordination of transportation for field trips, extracurricular activities, and special events Maintain accurate transportation records, including student rosters, routes, and reports Monitor communication systems and participate in the dissemination of transportation information Collaborate with Supervisor in coordinating coverage for driver absences and operational gaps Administer driver training requirements and onboarding processes Participate in accident investigations, documentation, and safety reporting Promote and administer student transportation safety programs and emergency drills Respond to transportation issues and emergencies as needed Multi-Departmental Leadership & Operational Responsibilities Promote a culture of safety, efficiency, and customer service across both departments Administer staff training, professional development, and continuous improvement efforts Participate in developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Collaborate with supervisor and direct and supervise non-licensed staff to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations Participate in responding to unexpected operational challenges and district needs Collaborate with supervisors to provide coordination between departments to improve communication and efficiency Attend meetings, trainings, and in-services to remain current in both fields Attend administrative leadership meetings and contribute to collaborative decision making for school operations Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors Qualifications Degree preferred (nutrition, business, public administration, logistics, or related field) Relevant experience in food service, transportation, operations, or school systems preferredKnowledge of:
USDA school nutrition regulations Ohio pupil transportation rules and safety requirements Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities across departments Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders Ability to maintain accurate records and use data systems effectively Proficiency with computer systems, spreadsheets, and operational software Valid Ohio driver's license Certifications & Licensure ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain) Van Driver Certification (required) School Bus Monitor Certification (required) CDL not required, but candidate may pursue CDL with district support if desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to coordinate complex operations across multiple systems Strong attention to detail and compliance requirements Ability to train and support adult learners Ability to remain calm and responsive in emergency or high-pressure situations Effective communication and conflict resolution skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to student safety and well-being Working Conditions Work performed in office, school kitchens, and transportation facilities Exposure to kitchen environments, equipment, and cleaning chemicals Exposure to weather conditions and transportation settings Occasional lifting (up to approximately 50 pounds) May require evening or weekend work as needed Must be available to respond to operational needs or emergencies Performance Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies and administrative guidelines.
