Job Description

Under direction, oversees and coordinates custodial services and storage operations; orders, receives, stores, manages, and distributes supplies; maintains a safe, organized, and compliant warehouse/storage environment; directs Custodial and assigned Recreation and Human Services personnel to uphold high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, facility care, and event-related storage management; inspects the work of assigned personnel; participates in the work of cleaning and organizing City facilities; does related work as required. Organizational Responsibilities Warehouse and Custodial Lead is a skilled, supervisory position reporting to the Recreation and Human Services Director or their designee. The incumbent is responsible for the activities of Custodians as well as Recreation staff who perform work in cleaning and maintaining City buildings and in the storage, organization, and handling of custodial supplies and event-related items. The Lead ensures that staff work effectively, safely, and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and City standards. Staff Management and Supervision Create and manage staff schedules, conduct employee performance evaluations, and ensure timely completion of training, and corrective action processes in accordance with City policies. Provide direct supervision, guidance, and evaluation of warehouse/storage, custodial, and assigned department personnel. Delegate tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure effective use of staff resources. Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback, and communicate performance expectations to support professional growth. Ensure staff compliance with all City policies, procedures, and safety standards. Promote a professional, collaborative, and safety-conscious work environment. Operations Oversight Identify departmental needs and opportunities for operational enhancements. Develop, recommend, and support improvements to processes, workflows, and systems to increase efficiency and service quality. Coordinate deliveries, shipments, pickups, and distribution of goods to City facilities. Prepare and maintain required operational documentation. Collaborate with City departments to support facility operations, events, and supply needs. Inventory Control/Management Monitor stock levels to ensure adequate supplies for warehouse, custodial, and event functions. Coordinate supply replenishment and communicate needs to procurement staff. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all storage and custodial supplies Identify, manage, and properly dispose of non-saleable or unusable stock in accordance with City practices. Conduct cycle counts and assist with full inventory audits. Safety and Compliance Implement and enforce safety protocols related to warehouse/storage operations, custodial activities, chemical handling, equipment use, and facility access. Ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal safety regulations. Conduct routine safety inspections and promptly report or address hazards. Warehouse Operations and Maintenance Oversee the receiving, ordering, inspection, organization, storage, and distribution of all supplies and event related items. Maintain a secure, clean, and well-organized warehouse environment, for operational readiness. Conduct regular inspections of warehouse equipment and coordinate maintenance or repairs. Ensure daily storage/warehouse operations run smoothly and effectively. Custodial Operations Direct the daily activities of the custodial team to ensure continuity of service across all City facilities, maintaining them in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition, including the regular cleaning of the Department's vehicle fleet. Develop and enforce cleaning schedules, procedures, and service standards. Ensure proper handling, storage, and inventory of chemicals, equipment, and supplies. Inspect custodial work for quality and ensure prompt resolution of deficiencies. Fill in to complete custodial duties when staffing shortages or operational needs arise Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of at least 24 units from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Facilities, or a related field is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred and may be substituted for the required supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience Two (2) years of full-time experience supervising staff is required; related part-time experience will be credited proportionally. Experience in warehouse/storage operations, custodial services, facilities management, or municipal operations is strongly preferred. Knowledge and Abilities Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel skills required and software management tools. Bilingual ability is desirable. Knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory practices, safety regulations, and equipment use. Proficiency in custodial methods, cleaning standards, and facility maintenance. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Physical ability to lift and transport materials (typically up to 50 lbs) and perform tasks requiring physical exertion. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities. Physical Demands Performance of the essential duties of this potion include the ability to exert a considerable amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort involving stooping, crouching, climbing and lifting in the performance of manual labor; requires sufficient hand/eye coordination to operate a variety of tools and equipment used in the performance of daily tasks. Must know and utilize safe work practices in and around electrical currents, cleaning chemicals and toxic waste. Special Conditions This position may work nights, weekends, holidays, and odd shifts are required. Assist with special events and activities as needed. License Must have and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License Please submit the required license, certificate, or registration with the State as evidence of professional or technical proficiency at the same time of filing the application.
