Job Description
Preferred Qualifications:
EPA 609 Certification Knowledge and Skills Strong leadership skills and abilities, including participatory management skills. Knowledge of budgeting and basic accounting skills. Knowledge of principles, methods and practices pertaining to the management of fleet maintenance, repair operations, parts purchasing and inventory. Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, budget development, program development, implementation, and evaluation. Principles and practices of employee supervision, including work planning, assignment, review and evaluation, and the training of staff in work methods and procedures. Knowledge of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and vehicle repair. Diagnostic skills. Will have overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, and oversight of all required repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance, up to and including major overhauls. Knowledge of Safe work practices related to fleet maintenance work. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, and District laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, and procedures relevant to assigned programs, projects, and operations. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, as well as contemporary office technology, computer equipment, and common business software applications, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet tools Principles and practices of record keeping. Demonstrate interpersonal skills and strong communication skills. Ability to make decisions and problem solve relative to urgency. Ability to prioritize and coordinate a multitude of tasks. Must have background and knowledge of all aspects of fleet operations. Attention to detail. Abilities Maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community agencies, and provide direction and motivation to service staff. Model a positive, student-centered philosophy and attitude toward service delivery. Identify, analyze, initiate and complete tasks with a minimum of supervision. Use basic hand tools. Effectively use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks. Desirable Qualifications Physical Demands The physical abilities, working conditions and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification. Requires ambulatory ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds with the use of proper equipment. Must be able to walk, stoop, climb, twist, bend, run, sit, squat, kneel, and work in awkward positions in the performance of work duties. Requires hand-eye-arm coordination. Will be required to operate high pressure air and power-washing equipment, and common vehicular shop tools and equipment. May be required to wear a special uniform and protective devices. Hazards also include working with chemicals, power tools, inclement weather, and working in a restricted area. High noise environment. Exposure to high dust, dirt, grease, bright lights, fuel, smoke, fumes, and chemicals. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices. Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles. Requires sufficient visual acuity to perform essential functions of the position. Sufficient auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone and make presentations to large audiences.
