Job Description

About the Opportunity Our client is an established, high-growth e-commerce gifting brand with a fulfillment operation in Central New Jersey. Every order they ship is a gift — often for a milestone moment — and the unboxing experience is as much the product as what's inside. Their fulfillment operation is where that promise is kept. Company details will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process. The Role We're seeking a Shipping Supervisor to own the outbound operation end to end — both small parcel and local hand delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll run the shipping floor, direct and develop a team that scales significantly during seasonal peaks, and own accountability for orders leaving on time, packed to standard, and at the right cost. You'll report directly to the Operations Lead and work closely with Production, Inventory, and Customer Service. If you like owning a department, planning ahead of demand, and building a team that runs well whether or not you're standing there — this is a strong fit. What You'll Do Lead the team. Direct the shipping floor through the full shift, set the pace and the standard, and build genuine bench strength so the department operates at standard in your absence. Cross-training and developing your people is a core expectation of this role, not a side project. Own outbound execution. Ensure every order ships on its planned ship date across both parcel and hand delivery. Manage carrier pickups, manifest close, and exception handling. Plan hand delivery routes and dispatch drivers so they leave on time and finish on time. Staff to demand. Build schedules against forecasted volume and adjust ahead of a backlog rather than in response to one. Scale the team up and back down cleanly through seasonal peaks. Keep the department ready. Own par levels for all shipping supplies and packaging, anticipate peak burn rates, and partner with the Inventory team to reorder with proper lead time. Protect the product. Enforce packing, handling, and presentation standards on fragile, high-value, gift-facing product. Work the systems. Operate the company's ERP for shipment processing, exceptions, and reporting — training provided. Surface recurring issues with a root cause and a proposed fix. How Success Is Measured On-time ship rate against planned ship date, across parcel and hand delivery Cost per shipment, including avoidable service-upgrade spend Team capability — the department's ability to run at standard when you're not there Schedule Standard shift is 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM . The operation runs Monday through Saturday, and occasional Saturday coverage is required. This is a seasonal business, and the peaks — Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and the holiday season — are the heart of the year. Extended hours and weekend coverage are required during these periods. We're upfront about this because it matters: candidates who can commit to showing up fully during peak do well here. What We're Looking For Required 1-3 years in shipping, fulfillment, or logistics, including at least 1 year directing or supervising a team Working knowledge of small parcel operations — carrier systems, service levels, manifesting, labeling, exception handling Working knowledge of local/last-mile delivery — routing, dispatch, and driver management Proven ability to run a shift independently and hold a team to a standard Comfort with ERP/WMS systems and spreadsheet reporting Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for the duration of a shift Reliable on-site presence, including through peak season No formal education requirement. Preferred E-commerce or DTC fulfillment background ERP/WMS experience Familiarity with FedEx, USPS, LTL/freight, or international shipping Forklift and/or pallet jack certification Bilingual English/Spanish Experience scaling a team through a seasonal peak Compensation & Benefits $70,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Full-time, exempt.
