Shipping Team Lead Utica, NY Full Time, Temp to Hire, 10:00am
  • 6:30pm, Monday
  • Friday $55,000.00
  • $60,000.
00 The Shipping Team Lead is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the Shipping department, ensuring all procedures are followed, and maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency. This role supports the team in meeting shipping deadlines, upholding quality standards, and delivering excellent service to both internal stakeholders and external customers. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPersonnel Management & Supervision Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on daily order volume, including managing time-off requests, resolving conflicts, and planning for unexpected absences or last-minute client changes. Optimize employee shift schedules to support operational efficiency. Communicate clearly and consistently with team members and management. Conduct weekly quality meetings for each shift to review mis-shipments, standard procedures, performance concerns, and positive achievements.
Hold two weekly meetings:
Early shift: 10:30 AM
  • 11:30 AM Split/Late shifts: 4:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM Follow the established meeting schedule and notify management of any deviations.
Document process violations and communicate issues promptly to management. Enforce policies and procedures consistently and fairly across the team. Review daily boxing logs, address individual performance gaps, and send a daily summary email outlining gaps, reasons, conversations held, and any concerning trends. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee training records. To write yearly reviews on the shipping team members. To train someone to be a backup. Shipping Operations Collaborate with the Quality department to develop and maintain documentation for all shipping processes, including customer-specific labeling requirements, daily schedules, priority guidelines, and shipping cutoff times. Maintain an up-to-date shipping flowchart for small parcel and freight operations. Being proficient is all shipping duties. To assist with shipping tasks during high-volume periods. Print and sort orders as needed. Ensure shipping carts are organized (left to right, highest to lowest priority) once signed out from Order Picking. Ensure all shippers are working on priority shipments and staying focused on assigned tasks. Ensure boxing logs are completed through midnight; the final 30 minutes of each shift should be dedicated to cleaning. Maintain a clean, organized shipping area with properly arranged skids. Correct team members when procedures are not followed and reinforce expectations. Monitor the late order report throughout the day to ensure all orders leave the building on time. Communicate internally as soon as any team appears to be falling behind. Notify customers proactively when orders may be delayed and follow up on all late orders. Assess nightly workload; if insufficient to keep the team busy until midnight, request units to be prepacked from stock. Consistently updating the system to add identifier locks, lithium-ion battery status. and updating UPCs to the correct versions. Being able to complete tasks for management and customers in a timely manner. Including responding to emails. Mastery of Order Modification software to update orders for notes, ship dates, and deletions. Transfer of inventory between multiple companies. To be able to ship basic international orders. Staging inventory at the end of the month for counting. Reporting Run, export, and organize shipping-related reports into clear, easy-to-understand formats for management review. Carrier Coordination Notify carriers (UPS, FedEx Express, etc.) when pickups are expected to be heavier than normal. Dock Readiness Ensure all shipped orders are staged on the dock and ready for pickup in a timely manner. Complete USPS manifesting daily. Priority Management Print priority lists and coordinate with Order Picking to determine which orders should be picked first. 6S Compliance Conduct weekly 6S inspections of the shipping area and ensure corrective actions are taken as needed. #
