Job Description:
Electric Distribution Line Supervisor The City of Orrville Distribution Department is seeking a qualified Distribution Electric Line Supervisor. This is a non exempt, classified position. The pay range is $41.99 - $56.69/hour.
Details are as follows:
Duties
  • Plans and schedules construction, maintenance, and repair of system lines, including material and equipment estimates and enters into the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Supervises assigned personnel, assigns tasks and vehicles, provides guidance and periodically monitors work performance, and inspects on completion.
  • Monitors the installation of single and three-phase metering; does installation work if required.
  • Responds to storm and other emergency situations that may arise; organizes and coordinates mutual aid with other utilities as necessary.
  • Prepares sketches and maps using the Utilities CAD system.
  • Consults with superintendent and engineering staff regarding design and implementation of major projects and problems that arise.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual budget by providing recommendations concerning equipment, staffing and material needs.
  • Supervises and inspects work of contractors when working for the Utilities.
  • Trains line workers in safe work practices and proper operation of tools and equipment.
  • Receives and resolves complaints from the public as required.
  • Visits construction (commercial and residential) site to advise and consult regarding options for utilizing and implementing electric services.
  • Arranges for and schedules vehicle inspections and repairs by manufacturers' mechanics.
  • Monitors inventory of supplies, tools, and materials or directs ordering of replacements as necessary.
  • Maintains and keeps current time, equipment, and work records; enters work orders into the computer as necessary; prepares reports as directed.
  • Inspects electrical distribution system and makes appropriate reports and recommendations.
  • Conducts periodic meetings with employees to share information, get ideas and feedback, plan future projects and needs of the department and build a team environment.
  • Plans and schedules tree trimming for contractors.
  • Conducts new employee orientation and directs on-the-job training of all employees; assists the superintendent in design and administering training programs.
  • Completes performance appraisal on employees supervised, provides guidance, direction, and counsels to improve performance, sets objectives; recommends corrective discipline as necessary and maintains appropriate records of same.
  • Implements safety programs in work area, assists in the development of safety procedures, standards, rules, and regulations, enforces same; conducts safety meetings and inspections, investigates all accidents and completes reports.
  • Reviews manpower needs, recommends staffing levels, interview job applicants, and recommends appropriate action.
  • Resolves employee complaints, if necessary, through the grievance procedure in coordination with the Distribution Superintendent and Human Resources Manager.
Qualifications:
Graduation from college or university with an associate degree in electrical engineering, electronics or related field, or completion of an apprentice program in electronics, supplemented by formal training courses covering electricity, oil circuit breakers, transformers, and related equipment; considerable experience in electric line maintenance work at a senior level; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Military Credit:
Applicants who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional credit of 10% if they receive a qualifying (passing) score of 70%. A copy of your DD-214 must be submitted along with the application. No credit will be given if the appropriate documentation is received after the deadline.

Exam Information:
Exam will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 5:30 pm at Schmid Hall, 501 Hall Street, Orrville, Ohio. Doors to the building will open at 5:20 pm and the exam will start promptly at 5:30 pm. Allow 1-1/2 hours for the exam. To be admitted to the exam, you must show a valid Ohio Driver's License upon arrival. Calculators will be provided, if necessary. Please remember the date, time and location of the exam. The exam is open to all citizens and those who have legally declared their intentions of becoming citizens who have properly followed application instructions.
