2nd Shift Position Summary The 2nd Shift Weld Lead is responsible for leading nightly weld department operations to ensure safety, quality, and productivity goals are met. This role provides hands-on leadership by coordinating work assignments, supporting operators, maintaining quality standards, and assisting with material handling and fixture changes as needed. The Weld Lead serves as the primary point of contact for the department during 2nd shift and communicates performance, issues, and priorities to supervision. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Communication Lead and support weld department associates during 2nd shift operations. Conduct beginning-of-shift meetings to communicate priorities, safety topics, and production goals. Assign and distribute work to optimize employee skills and equipment utilization. Communicate performance feedback, expectations, and company policies to team members. Assist with training operators and step in to support production when needed. Safety Promote a safe and clean work environment by enforcing company safety policies and procedures. Monitor daily safety conditions and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately. Ensure all required PPE is used and safety standards are followed. Quality Maintain a strong focus on quality and workmanship. Perform quality checks as required to ensure products meet specifications. Monitor housekeeping and work area organization to support quality and safety. Productivity & Materials Manage nightly production output to meet schedule requirements. Identify "hot jobs" and ensure priority work is completed. Pull materials and change fixtures as required to support production. Identify inventory discrepancies and report shortages or issues to supervision. Use forklifts to move fixtures, raw materials, and finished goods throughout the department. Reporting & Systems Track and report employee efficiency and production data. Use Microsoft-based systems and basic computer programs as required. Communicate production status, issues, and needs to the Weld Supervisor. Other Perform other duties as assigned by management or supervision. Prior lead or informal leadership experience strongly preferred. Ability to assist in training operators and support production as needed. Must be able to pass a weld test. Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Forklift operation required; must pass lift truck certification. Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft programs preferred. Language & Reasoning Skills Ability to read and understand safety rules, work instructions, and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with employees. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data and draw conclusions. Physical Demands Frequent walking and standing. Regular use of hands and fingers for handling tools and materials. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate a forklift daily. Work Environment Manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels. Required PPE includes steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection as needed.
