Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler transports and handles materials within a large structural steel manufacturing facility. This role operates forklifts, overhead cranes, and related equipment to move materials safely and efficiently between designated locations, while working closely with production teams to support a smooth and safe workflow. Responsibilities Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling machinery to transport materials throughout the facility. Assist with loading and unloading materials in both the air-conditioned production bay and outdoor areas. Organize, stage, and move materials to support welding, machine operating, and other production activities. Collaborate closely with welding teams, machine operators, supervisors, and other team members to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow. Use RF scanners and other inventory tools to support accurate picking, inventory control, and material tracking. Handle structural steel and related materials in an industrial manufacturing environment while maintaining production flow. Maintain open and consistent communication regarding the status and progress of daily tasks. Follow and uphold all safety protocols and procedures, supporting a culture where safety is the top priority. Perform general labor and material handling tasks as needed to support overall production operations. Essential Skills Experience operating forklifts in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience operating overhead cranes or similar lifting equipment. Strong safety awareness and a demonstrated commitment to following safety protocols. Effective verbal communication skills to provide progress updates and coordinate with team members. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, and positioning materials. Capability to work comfortably in both indoor and outdoor settings. Experience with material handling in a production or structural steel manufacturing environment. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced industrial setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with RF scanners for inventory, picking, and material tracking. Experience in general labor, production, or industrial manufacturing. Exposure to steel manufacturing or structural steel production environments. Overhead crane experience is a plus but not required. Forklift experience is a plus but not required. Work Environment The role is based in a large structural steel production facility that combines both indoor and outdoor work. Approximately half of the work takes place inside an air-conditioned production bay, and the other half occurs outdoors in the yard or loading areas. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with regular interaction and collaboration across welding, machine operating, and other production teams. Material handling equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, RF scanners, and related tools are used daily. The facility prioritizes safety and teamwork, and the position requires comfort working around heavy steel, industrial machinery, and varying temperatures depending on indoor or outdoor assignments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Mirage, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.45 - $22.15/hr.
