Warehouse Worker Job Description This role is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items within a stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. You will help maintain accurate inventory records, ensure products are stored safely and efficiently, and support smooth warehouse operations by performing a variety of material handling, packing, and inspection tasks. Responsibilities Receive incoming stock items, verify quantities, and accurately record data manually or using a computer system. Count and verify inventory by comparing physical counts of stock against inventory records, and investigate discrepancies or correct errors as needed. Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards, ensuring items are handled safely and efficiently. Store items in an orderly, labeled, and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other designated areas. Label stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment to ensure proper tracking and organization. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure a safe, organized, and compliant work environment. Keep accurate records on the use, movement, and condition of stock and stock handling equipment, including any damage or loss. Examine and inspect stock items for wear, defects, or damage, and promptly report issues to supervisors for further action. Provide assistance, guidance, or direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers to support efficient team operations. Use RF scanners and other relevant equipment to support receiving, storage, picking, packing, and loading activities. Perform material handling tasks such as picking, packing, and loading orders in accordance with established procedures. Essential Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills to document inventory and coordinate with team members. Analytical and problem-solving ability to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and operational issues. Ability to work effectively as a team player while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Knowledge of relevant warehouse equipment and tools used for receiving, storage, picking, packing, and loading. Familiarity with policies, procedures, and strategies that support safe and secure operations for people, data, property, and facilities. Prior warehouse experience in pick, pack, and load operations (2-4 years of experience required). Experience using RF scanners for inventory and order processing. High school diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of experience in a related role; previous experience as a Material Handler is highly relevant. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a receiver handling incoming shipments and verifying documentation. Hands-on experience with storage, inventory control, and material handling processes. Comfort working with computer-based inventory systems and manual recordkeeping. Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in stockrooms, warehouses, and storage yards. Capability to follow established safety procedures and contribute to a safe work environment. The shift schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 4:30 PM to 2:30 AM, providing a consistent evening and overnight work pattern. The environment requires adherence to safety procedures, maintaining clean and organized storage areas, and working collaboratively with other warehouse and stockroom personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Old Lyme, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.75 - $19.75/hr.
