Job Title:
Warehouse Worker Job Description This role involves operating material handling equipment, assisting with machine operations, and performing general warehouse tasks in a busy metal manufacturing facility. The position begins as a contract assignment with the opportunity to transition to a permanent union role after approximately 90 days. You will work on a set weekday schedule on second or third shift, supporting the production of metal filters, fences, gratings, and related products while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality. Responsibilities Operate sit-down forklifts to move raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products to and from machines and storage areas. Drive forklifts safely in tight quarters and congested areas, maintaining awareness of people and equipment nearby. Assist as a machine helper, supporting machine operators with loading, unloading, and monitoring production processes. Use measuring tools to check dimensions and ensure products meet specified tolerances and quality standards. Build crates and packaging using hand tools and power tools as needed to prepare products for shipment. Perform packing tasks, including organizing, labeling, and preparing metal products for storage or transport. Use a computer to enter basic data, track inventory, and follow work instructions or job tickets. Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift in a safe and controlled manner. Follow all safety procedures when handling heavy and sharp metal materials, including proper use of personal protective equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations and a safe work environment. Work assigned weekday shifts and required occasional Saturday shifts to meet production demands. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and report issues or safety concerns. Essential Skills Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Ability to safely drive and maneuver forklifts in tight and confined spaces. Basic computer skills for data entry, work instructions, and inventory tracking. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Comfort working around heavy and sharp metal materials while following strict safety protocols. Reliability and willingness to work assigned weekday shifts and occasional required Saturdays. Strong attention to detail when using measuring tools and performing quality checks. Ability to work effectively in a loud, fast-paced industrial environment. No specific education or formal certification requirements for this position. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a machine operator, machine helper, or packer in a manufacturing or warehouse setting. Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, or similar devices. Spanish language skills are a plus and can support communication with a diverse team. Previous experience working in a unionized environment is helpful but not required. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a loud metal manufacturing facility where employees handle heavy and sharp metal materials and must remain highly safety conscious at all times. The facility is not temperature controlled, so it can be hot in the summer and colder in the winter. Work is performed on second or third shift with set hours: on the North Line, second shift runs from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm and third shift runs from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am; on the South Line, second shift runs from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm and third shift runs from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with the use of sit-down forklifts, machines for metal processing, and standard measuring and packing tools.A specific dress code applies:
employees must wear steel-toed boots, jeans or pants with no holes, and a long-sleeve or short-sleeve T-shirt. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Libertyville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $20.75/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
