Incumbent serves as CDL Driver/Warehouse Worker for the White County Recycling Department, responsible for assisting with operations of recycling program sites and operating various machines and equipment.
DUTIES:
Performs duties of Assistant Director and Director in their absence. Works with warehouse staff on standard daily functions of sorting and bailing materials. Maintains assigned cardboard route pickups on assigned days. Pulls trailer to and from facility, and oversees trailer location sites are neat and clean. Loads trailer with materials to ship and maintains bill of lading. Assists in providing maintenance and repair of County owned machines or vehicles, Operates various hand and/or power tools in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, hammer, screw drivers, wrenches, drills, air compressor, ratchet, mop, and broom. Operates various machinery and/or equipment in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, fork lift, delivery truck, grinder, and powers saw. Performs related duties as assigned.
I. KNOWEDLGES AND SKILLS
High school diploma or HSE. Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test. Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications and/or training, including forklift training, blood borne pathogens, and slips and falls. Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department safety policies and procedures and applicable OSHA safety policies and procedures. Working knowledge of Department equipment and machinery and ability to safely operate various tools and equipment, including, but not limited to, bobcat, bailer, glass crusher, forklift, hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchet, drills, and air compressor. Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation and ability to prepare grant applications and written reports as required. Knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate and complete department files and records. Ability to perform duties of Assistant Director in their absence. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements. Shall comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct. Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions and present finding in oral or written form. Ability to physically perform duties, including sitting/standing for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, crouching/kneeling, bending, reaching, driving, and handling/grasping/fingering objects. Ability to compute/calculate, such as project material needs, square feet, or unit price. Ability to operate various hand and/or power tools in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, hammer, screw drivers, wrenches, drills, air compressor, ratchet, mop, and broom. Ability to operate various machinery and/or equipment in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, fork lift, delivery truck, grinder, and powers saw. Ability to occasionally work weekend hours. Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), a demonstrated safe driving record, and ability to be insurable to drive assigned vehicles under the County's insurance policy.
II. RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent performs specific duties, exercising judgment to oversee operations and identify potential and existing hazards. Work priorities and schedules are primarily determined by supervisor. Assignments and objectives are set jointly by incumbent and supervisor following standard operating procedures, with incumbent referring to supervisor for unusual or unprecedented situations. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through standard safety procedures. Undetected errors could result in damage to equipment or property and/or endangerment to self or others. Incumbent reports directly to Assistant Director.
III. PHYSICAL EFFORT
Incumbent's duties may involve continuous physical exertion, sitting/standing for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing 25-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, crouching/kneeling, bending, reaching, driving, speaking clearly, close/far vision, depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent performs duties in a Pole barn and/or outdoors, involving working in varying weather conditions, near fumes, odors, dust and dirt, and near chemicals. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others and protective gear must be worn according to Department policy. Incumbent occasionally works weekend hours.
