Job Description

Position Summary The Material Handler is responsible for safely receiving, moving, storing, staging, and shipping raw materials and finished products throughout the metal fabrication facility. This position requires the operation of forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment to support production and shipping operations while maintaining accurate inventory records and a safe work environment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 1-5 years of warehouse, logistics, or material handling experience preferred. Previous experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or similar material handling equipment preferred. Forklift certification from a previous employer preferred. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills. Ability to read, write, follow verbal and written instructions, and work independently when required. Basic computer skills and experience with warehouse management systems or inventory software. Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure. Excellent physical stamina with the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift materials throughout the workday. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Willingness to work flexible schedules, including overtime, as needed. Essential Responsibilities Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials and finished products using forklifts and overhead cranes. Transport materials between loading docks, flatbed trailers, storage areas, the yard, and manufacturing work centers. Identify, label, and accurately record material locations within the warehouse and yard. Pull, stage, package, and load finished products for shipment onto flatbed trailers. Safely operate forklifts (2-ton and 8-ton capacity), overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment. Perform routine cycle counts and assist with maintaining accurate inventory records. Inspect materials for damage and report discrepancies or shortages. Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse, yard, and staging areas. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations. Assist production, receiving, and shipping departments as needed to ensure efficient workflow. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and climb as required. Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other powered industrial equipment. Work Environment This position is performed in a metal fabrication manufacturing facility and outdoor yard. Employees are exposed to moving equipment, heavy steel products, varying temperatures, noise, dust, and other industrial conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. Safety Expectations Operate all equipment safely and in accordance with company policies. Conduct pre-operation equipment inspections and report maintenance issues promptly. Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety procedures. Participate in required safety training and meetings. Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
