Job Description

  • SUMMARY
OF FUNCTION
Perform general maintenance functions required for the upkeep and repair of the grounds, roadways, equipment, furniture, and facilities of the VFW National Home. Involves general maintenance work such as painting, basic woodworking and carpentry, plumbing, home and yard maintenance, roadway repair and maintenance, snow removal, use and maintenance of power tools, organization and cleaning of work areas and moving supplies and equipment.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
  • 1. Assist in the functions of the position as assigned by supervisor.
  • 2. Perform general grounds maintenance including, but not limited to trimming shrubbery, weeding lawns, leaf removal and other landscape work as assigned.
  • 3. Repair furniture as directed by supervisor.
  • 4. Unload trucks and move agency property, supplies and materials in a safe, consistent manner using proper lifting techniques and mechanical assist devices.
  • 5. Maintain clean, organized, and hazard free environment in woodworking shop and all maintenance areas.
  • 6. Perform basic preventative maintenance on agency equipment as assigned.
  • 7. Participate in the On-Call rotation as assigned by supervisor.
  • 8. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly responsible to the Facilities Supervisor and Facilities Director. Day-to-day direction provided to VFW National Home maintenance employees as required by the Facilities Supervisor. Responsible for following all rules of the agency, including safety rules. This includes the use of safety equipment and the reporting of all injuries using agency procedures. Responsible to use and maintain various woodworking power tools and to clean and organize woodworking shop. Responsible to communicate with the Facilities Supervisor regarding attendance.
