Job Description
1st & 2nd Shift Piedmont Metals is seeking a dependable Forklift Operator / Material Handler to support our manufacturing and shipping operations. This position is responsible for safely operating forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes to move raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished products throughout the facility. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficient material flow, supporting production schedules, and ensuring shipments are loaded and unloaded safely and accurately. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes to transport materials throughout the facility. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently. Move raw materials, finished goods, and production materials to designated locations. Sort, organize, and stage materials for production and shipping activities. Verify materials are properly identified and stored. Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns. Conduct basic preventative maintenance checks on material handling equipment. Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures at all times. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Assist with inventory movement, material handling, and production support tasks as needed. Communicate effectively with supervisors, production personnel, and shipping staff to ensure workflow efficiency. Qualifications Forklift operating experience preferred. Previous material handling, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Basic math and measurement skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment. Reliable attendance and strong work ethic. Abilities Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Ability to safely transport and stage materials throughout the facility. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required. Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise. Ability to safely operate forklifts, lulls, and overhead cranes. Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing and warehouse environment and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
