Warehouse Associate Job Description The Warehouse Associate plays a key role in the materials handling process by accurately picking and preparing orders using a voice-directed system (Voxware) or pick sheets. This position involves working with headsets, handheld devices, scanners, carts, and totes to ensure the correct items and quantities are picked and delivered to the pack-out area. The role requires consistent attention to detail, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift, and a strong sense of responsibility and urgency in a clean, climate-controlled warehouse environment. Responsibilities Accurately pick orders using the Voxware voice-directed system, headset, handheld device, and scanner, or by using printed pick sheets, as assigned. Follow voice prompts or pick sheet instructions to select the correct item and quantity for each order line. Use carts and totes to transport picked items safely and efficiently through the warehouse. Complete each assigned order and confirm completion in the system, ensuring all lines and quantities are accurate. Report to the supervisor after each completed order to receive new picking assignments. Deliver completed orders to the designated pack-out area and ensure items are staged correctly for packing. Lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift while maintaining safe lifting practices. Walk approximately 5-10 miles per shift within the warehouse as part of the picking process. Operate warehouse equipment as needed, which may include sit-down and stand-up forklifts, RF scanners, and other material handling tools, if trained and authorized. Assist with loading and unloading materials, as required, to support warehouse operations. Support inventory control activities, including warehouse inventory checks and cycle counts, to maintain accurate stock levels. Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure the correct products are picked and sent, especially for hospital deliveries. Work with a clear sense of urgency to meet delivery times and support time-sensitive warehouse operations. Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent workflow and team coverage. Participate actively in training during the initial 1-2 week period and continue to learn and adapt to processes and systems. Follow all warehouse safety guidelines, including proper use of equipment, adherence to dress code, and awareness of surroundings. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient warehouse environment. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding order status, issues, or discrepancies. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including break and lunch guidelines, while maintaining productivity. Contribute positively to a relaxed yet performance-focused team culture by completing assigned tasks and supporting colleagues as needed. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED required. Approximately 3 years of previous warehouse experience, ideally in a similar role. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently throughout the shift. Capability to walk 5-10 miles per shift in a warehouse environment. Experience with order picking in a warehouse setting. Ability to use or learn Voxware voice-directed picking systems with headsets and handheld devices. Experience using RF scanners for picking, inventory, or order processing, or the ability to learn quickly. Basic understanding of warehouse inventory processes, including cycle counts and inventory control. Ability to operate or learn sit-down and stand-up forklifts, if required and trained. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate item and quantity selection and prevent incorrect shipments. Reliable attendance and a strong sense of responsibility toward work commitments. Sense of urgency and ability to work within time-sensitive delivery schedules. Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and equipment. Ability to follow verbal instructions through a headset while staying aware of surroundings. Comfort working in a structured environment with defined procedures and performance expectations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience as a Warehouse Associate, Picker, Order Selector, Packer, or in packaging and order fulfillment. Experiencce in loading and unloading materials in a warehouse or distribution environment. Experience with warehouse inventory activities, including cycle counts and stock verification. Familiarity with both sit-down and stand-up forklift operation, with appropriate training and certification where required. Experience working in a climate-controlled, organized warehouse setting. Demonstrated job tenure and stability in previous roles, showing commitment rather than frequent job changes. Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain clean and orderly work areas. Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with supervisors and team members. Comfort using technology such as headsets, handheld devices, scanners, and RF equipment. Employees typically walk 5-10 miles per shift while moving through the facility to pick orders. The warehouse uses Voxware voice-directed systems, headsets, handheld devices, scanners, RF equipment, carts, and totes, and may involve sit-down and stand-up forklifts for trained personnel. Breaks include two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch, with some overtime possible. A breakroom is available with vending machines, a TV, ample seating, microwaves, and a refrigerator, and employees may leave the site for lunch by clocking out and back in. The dress code allows for comfortable attire such as shorts and short-sleeve shirts, as long as clothing fits properly and does not display vulgar, profane, or offensive writing or graphics. Closed-toe shoes are required, and tennis shoes are acceptable. Employees may use one headphone to listen to audio while working, provided they remain aware of their surroundings and follow safety policies, which may be adjusted if issues arise. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
