Job Description

  • General Laborer - Summer Job!
  • The Field Inspector collects accurate quality data using a company-issued iPhone and supports all aspects of seed production, both in the field and indoors.
This role involves scouting fields to gather silk and pollen counts, assisting with seed processing and packaging, and maintaining accurate electronic records. The position is physically active, requires daily travel from a central meeting site to various field locations in a personal vehicle, and includes comprehensive on-the-job training. Responsibilities Collect quality and agronomic information in the field using a company-issued iPhone and other electronic data collection tools. Scout fields to observe and record silk and pollen counts and other crop-related data as directed. Meet on-site each morning and travel from the site to assigned fields in a personal vehicle, sometimes up to an hour away. Support all facets of seed production at the location, including both indoor and outdoor activities. Perform indoor seed processing and packaging tasks such as receiving, scanning, cleaning, treating, sorting, counting, labeling, and warehousing seed. Carry out outdoor activities including planting, pollinating, taking notes, data entry, and hand harvest of seed or plant material. Use PC and handheld devices for electronic data collection in field and laboratory settings. Assist with manufacturing and production activities such as organizing, moving, and placing seed into storage and maintaining inventory accuracy. Utilize electronic inventory systems to track and manage seed inventory. Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment in assigned areas and help operate and troubleshoot equipment as needed. Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and site safety requirements at all times. Understand and apply verbal and written task and safety instructions delivered in English to complete work accurately. Work extended hours during peak seasons as requested to meet production and field operation needs. Carry out physically demanding tasks that may include bending, lifting, and long periods of sitting or standing. Maintain clear written and electronic records, demonstrating strong writing and communication skills to support production and research documentation. Skills Ability to walk multiple miles per day across varying and sometimes uneven terrain to scout fields. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written task and safety instructions delivered in English and perform assigned tasks accurately. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and/or related experience in production, manufacturing, agriculture, or a similar environment. Capability to adhere to all site standard operating procedures (SOPs) and support all safety requirements consistently. Comfort with physically demanding work, including bending, lifting, and extended periods of sitting or standing. Valid personal transportation suitable for daily travel from the site to multiple field locations. Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, and familiarity with standard computer and software systems for data entry and reporting. Ability to use handheld and PC-based electronic data collection devices in field, laboratory, and production settings. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Waco, NE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
