Effective July 15, 2019, the City of Dayton adopted the Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy (HR 1.03). Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening.
Purpose:
To provide growing season facility and grounds maintenance and/or to assist in various leisure time programs during a growing season. During the season there may be days were work is not available due to rain and there may be additional days to make up for rain days.
Examples of Work Performed:
This is a multi-incumbent seasonal classification. Work locations can be indoors and/or outdoors, but will be primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Incumbent works individually or as a member of a crew. Work is performed under close supervision until work is familiar to the employee. After that, the employee works without direct supervision. Primary functions include but are not limited to performing special assignments related to Public Works operations; performing maintenance duties as required to ensure program success and to provide a clean and safe working environment. Primary outside maintenance work roles include but are not limited to parks, athletic fields, vacant lots, highways, roadways, cleaning rest rooms; operating various pieces of mowing equipment; maintaining soil and plants; minor painting; replacement of playground equipment parts or units; fence repair; minor carpentry; horticultural practices at a greenhouse or nursery or cleaning park facilities; tree removal; trash pick up, and festival set-up. Operates and performs minor maintenance on tractors and accessories which includes driving a pick-up and trailer combo, small motorized equipment and hand tools. Limit on lifting is 60 pounds. City of Dayton supervision will provide training on all equipment that will be required to be used.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Incumbent is expected to stay abreast of current technological methods and have knowledge & skills including but not limited to the following areas: Skill and ability in the use of tools/equipment in buildings/ground maintenance. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds on a consistent basis. Basic maintenance knowledge and skills. Ability to follow basic oral and/or written instructions. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Minimum Education & Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and skill in the use of tools/equipment in buildings/grounds maintenance OR six (6) months work experience, paid or volunteer.
Special Requirements:
Employee must provide and wear steel toe boots daily. Must have a valid driver's license at time of appointment, and a valid State of Ohio driver's license within 30 days of appointment as a condition of continued employment. The hiring department is responsible for verifying and enforcing the driver's license requirement.
SEASON:
The season for this position runs from March through October.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSIGNMENT PAY CONSIDERATION
Must have prior experience operating a utility tractor, mowing equipment, pick-up truck & trailer combo, or equivalent. Must be capable of completing and maintaining accurate and legible service request, work orders and equipment maintenance records. Performs routine preventive maintenance including sharpening blades, changing oil, changing filters, and lubricating parts as needed. . Experience with lawn equipment or landscaping. Interest in sports or outdoor work
Pay:
