General Laborer/Burner & Equipment Operator Company Overview Nicholas Enterprises, Inc. has provided material handling and storage services since 1902 and has served the river transportation industry for more than 65 years. We operate rail, truck, barge, and warehouse facilities throughout the Port of Pittsburgh and central Pennsylvania. Our Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminal (PIT) is a full-service intermodal facility in Ambridge, PA, offering barge, rail, truck, and warehouse services. The 40-acre terminal also provides value-added services, including welding and fabrication. Position Summary Nicholas Enterprises is seeking dependable, safety-minded individuals to join our operations team as General Laborer/Burner & Equipment Operator. This position is responsible for safely loading, unloading, moving, storing, measuring, and processing steel products and other industrial materials throughout the terminal. Duties include operating heavy equipment, assisting with material handling, measuring and burn cutting steel products, and supporting daily terminal operations involving barges, railcars, trucks, warehouses, and outdoor storage areas. Operators are trained to safely operate a variety of equipment, including: 10-20 ton forktrucks Cab-operated dual hoist dock cranes Yard trucks Oxy-fuel cutting/burning equipment Other heavy equipment as needed Experience operating heavy equipment, handling steel products, or performing burning and fabrication work is preferred. We are willing to train motivated individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety. Advancement opportunities are available. Responsibilities Safely load, unload, move, store, and process steel products and other industrial materials. Operate forklifts, dock cranes, yard trucks, and other equipment as assigned. Gather, measure, mark, cut, and restock steel beams, piling, and other materials according to work orders. Read work orders, bills of lading, shipping documents, and cut details to ensure accurate material handling and processing. Perform daily equipment inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns. Follow all company policies, operating procedures, and safety requirements. Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Assist with other terminal operations and duties as needed. Qualifications Recent work history with reliable transportation. Experience operating heavy equipment, including forklifts, cab-operated cranes, or similar industrial equipment, is preferred. Experience with steel handling, rigging, cutting/ burning is preferred. Ability to read work orders, shipping documents, and cut details. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions. Strong attention to safety, reliability, and teamwork. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced industrial environment. Willingness to learn, take direction, and perform a variety of tasks as business needs require. Compensation & Benefits Competitive wages based on experience and qualifications. Health insurance.
