Position Purpose:
A Material Handler is vital to the overall performance of a production line. The main function is to ensure customer satisfaction through safely and correctly meeting production demands. They are responsible and accountable for the quality assurance with regards to the Finished Goods Packing Specifications and Quality limits. Operators must facilitate the movement of materials through the entire process from receiving material to sending a finished product.
Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:
Operating a forklift, loading and unloading trailers, moving materials and finished goods through the facility. Ensure correct pallets on each truck. Maintain specific custom loading requirements. Ensure current pallet tags are in place and no product damage or leaking occurs. Responsible for the flow of material including receiving and sending back to inventory, as well as keeping the floor stocked and maintaining correct pace of workflow to meet quality and production standards. Ensure quality products are being packaged, coded, labeled, and stenciled as required. Responsible for keeping the line running and operating at optimal speed. Responsible for job set ups. Responsible for doing all paperwork and production data recording (Safety, Production, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and Daily Production Boards) Must verify the packing specs are met with all packing material and pack/pallet orientation Must be able to understand the Finished Goods schedule and cross reference data from the schedule to the job at hand. Must follow proper procedures for tagging ware. Required to operate a fork truck and other material handling equipment. Must rotate from different positions as needed. Must perform duties in accordance with all plant rules and regulations. Must communicate all mechanical and electrical issues with Supervisor and Maintenance. Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the production line including the pallet loading area and the floor area. Must ensure all finished goods boxes are being stacked correctly. Must have an understanding of the machines and be able to trouble shoot and replace material before it runs out. Fill in on the line for emergencies and/or job rotations. Responsible for assisting/coaching new hires with line loading speeds and techniques to adequately meet job requirements. Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment and adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Operate manual palletizing machines. Ensure pallets have no overhangs, underhangs, or poor alignment. Depending on business need, may be required to perform any and all tasks normally performed by temporary employees. Performs miscellaneous tasks as required.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
High School diploma or GED, or 1-3 years relevant experience. Must be a certified forklift operator. Ability to interact effectively with co-workers. Understand written and verbal work instructions. Good judgment and decision making, able to work independently or in team environment.
