Company Description Out of the Garden Project (OOTGP) nourishes children, families, and seniors with fresh, healthy food so they can grow, learn, and thrive. Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, we operate across the Piedmont Triad through programs including Fresh Mobile Markets, Nourish 2 Thrive school partnerships, food reclamation, and a Shared-Use Community Kitchen. Each month, our team distributes more than 150,000 pounds of food through 25+ mobile markets and school-based programs, serving thousands of neighbors with dignity. Powered by hundreds of dedicated volunteers and strong community partnerships, OOTGP is building a more equitable and sustainable local food system. Role Description The Warehouse & Distribution Associate supports the day-to-day movement of food through Out of the Garden Project's warehouse and distribution systems. This role plays a hands-on part in food distribution, food pickups, deliveries, inventory management, and warehouse organization to ensure that donated food reaches community members safely and efficiently. This position works closely with the Fresh Mobile Market Manager and Lead Driver & Fleet Coordinator. The Warehouse & Distribution Associate is a physically active role. To perform the essential functions of this position, the candidate must be able to:
Stationary Position & Mobility :
Remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing administrative tasks, and frequently traverse the full extent of the facility (warehouse or site) pulling or pushing food inventory and to assist in departmental workflows.Positioning & Inspection:
Regularly position self (e.g., stooping, bending, or crouching) to inspect equipment, audit inventory levels, and ensure safety compliance in tight or low-access areas.Transportation of Materials:
Regularly move, transport, or position items (e.g., pushing, pulling, or lifting) weighing up to 50 pounds.Operational Oversight:
Maintain a high level of cognitive focus and physical stamina during peak operational periods, which include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.Environmental Exposure :
Work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes fluctuating temperatures, high noise levels, and outdoor weather conditions.Driving & Distribution:
Safely operate a 16-foot box truck for food pickups and deliveries. Loading, unloading, and securing food donations during transport. Follow assigned routes and schedules to ensure timely pickups and deliveries. Support basic vehicle care by reporting maintenance needs and completing daily safety checks. Warehouse Operations Receive, sort, and organize incoming food donations according to food safety standards. Assist with inventory rotation (FIFO) and staging food for outgoing programs. Maintain a clean, organized warehouse in compliance with OSHA and food safety guidelines. Accurately log pickups, deliveries, and inventory movement as directed. Donor & Partner Interaction Represent Out of the Garden Project professionally at donor locations during pickups. Communicate clearly and respectfully with store staff and community partners. Report donation-quality concerns or opportunities to the Lead Driver. Program & Team Support Assist with Fresh Mobile Markets and other food distributions. Support volunteer-led warehouse activities by modeling safe and efficient practices. Participate in additional operational tasks as assigned.Compensation:
Hourly pay to commensurate with experience starting at $13 per hour. Benefits are not provided with this role. Requirements Must be able to work onsite in warehouses and outdoor environments with no option of remote work available. Requires a flexible schedule to oversee early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must have 2 years minimum of driving experience. Must have valid North Carolina Driver's License as an insured motorist. Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious. Qualifications Working knowledge or willingness to learn food safety standards, fleet maintenance and safety, and operational compliance. Commitment to equity, dignity, and community-centered service. Ability to lift, push, pull repeatedly up to 50 pounds and work periodically in warehouse and outdoor environments. Ability to operate a forklift and other heavy equipment including various trucks preferred.Pay:
