Material Handler I
Job Description
The Material Handler I is responsible for safely and accurately moving, staging, storing, and delivering materials throughout the facility. The role develops proficiency in forklift and material-handling equipment operation, material identification, inventory transactions, documentation, and traceability while following established procedures and receiving regular direction as needed. Safely move, stage, store, retrieve, and deliver raw materials, components, work-in-process, supplies, and finished products. Operate assigned forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, walkie stackers, and other approved material-handling equipment in accordance with training and authorization. Complete required pre-use equipment inspections and report unsafe conditions or equipment deficiencies. Load and unload trucks, trailers, racks, storage locations, and staging areas as assigned. Verify part numbers, descriptions, quantities, labels, lot/batch information, and locations before moving or issuing material. Maintain proper material identification, labeling, storage, segregation, and traceability. Complete required material issues, transfers, receipts, returns, location changes, and other inventory transactions in the applicable ERP/MRP or material-tracking system. Review work orders, pick tickets, packing slips, labels, transfer documents, and related material documentation for accuracy. Identify, document, segregate, and appropriately control damaged, aged, nonconforming, or questionable material according to established procedures. Follow applicable FIFO, lot-control, storage, inventory-control, PPE, traffic, pedestrian, and safety requirements. Maintain clean, organized, and safe material storage, staging, and work areas. Communicate shortages, damaged material, incorrect quantities, labeling concerns, or other issues that may affect operations. Participate in safety, quality, housekeeping, training, and continuous-improvement activities. Perform routine material movements and assigned priorities following established instructions. Complete basic inventory and material transactions with guidance as needed. Identify inventory, location, labeling, quantity, or documentation discrepancies and escalate them appropriately. Develop proficiency in assigned equipment, material flow, inventory practices, and system transactions. Performs department-specific material handling, inventory, documentation, equipment operation, and operational support duties as required by assigned work area, following established procedures, training, and safety requirements . Perform other duties as assigned. High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 1-2 Years previous fork lift, warehouse, manufacturing, production-support, or material-handling experience required. Ability to successfully complete company-required forklift/powered industrial truck training and authorization. Basic computer, data-entry, counting, and documentation skills. Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards.
