Position Summary The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and accurate movement of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods throughout Tongrun's Bonham facility. This role keeps the production floor supplied and moving by ensuring the right material is at the right work center at the right time. The ideal candidate is organized, physically capable, dependable, and understands that material availability directly impacts production schedules. Core Responsibilities Safely move raw materials, sheet stock, and cut parts between receiving, storage, and production work centers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes. Receive inbound material deliveries and count and verify materials against packing slips for quantity and type. Inspect incoming materials for quality and report discrepancies promptly. Verify packing slips against purchase orders, including special requirements, and notify Purchasing of discrepancies. Verify metal length, width, thickness, and visual quality using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Identify and properly store raw materials in designated locations. Stage and identify defective materials awaiting vendor pickup. Pull and kit materials for open work orders as directed by the Inventory/Materials Manager or Production Supervisor. Maintain accurate sheet metal inventory records and complete required documentation before materials advance to the next operation. Sort and dispose of scrap materials in the appropriate containers according to established procedures. Maintain organized raw material and finished goods storage areas, including proper labeling, location accuracy, and accessibility. Support cycle count activities and promptly report inventory discrepancies to the Inventory Manager or Plant Manager with appropriate documentation. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements. Perform additional material handling or production support duties as assigned. What You Bring Previous material handling, warehouse, or production support experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Forklift certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification within30 days of hire is required. Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment. Ability to use measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Basic computer literacy and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision. Reliable attendance and a dependable, safety-first work ethic. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to learn and understand sheet metal sizes, types, and specifications. Physical Requirements Ability to safely handle and lift raw sheet materials, fabricated parts, and production supplies weighing up to 35 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Ability to safely operate a forklift and pallet jack independently. Certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Ability to operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment safely after completing Tongrun's required training program. Ability to verify sheet metal length, width, and thickness using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Ability to stand and move throughout the facility, production floor, and warehouse areas for the majority of the workday. May be required to assist other team members with material handling or production support tasks within reasonable physical exertion limits. Work Environment This position works on the shop floor in a precision metal fabrication environment. The work environment may include exposure to production machinery, moderate to high noise levels, metal dust or particles, and varying temperatures.
