Job Description

Position Overview:
The Material Handler is responsible for preparing, organizing, loading, unloading, and staging materials for production and shipment in a safe and efficient manner. This role supports manufacturing and shipping operations by handling steel grating products, structural materials, hardware, and accessories while ensuring accurate documentation and inventory control. The Material Handler works closely with production, shipping, and supervisory personnel to maintain workflow and meet operational goals. Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Load and unload incoming and outgoing shipments using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment Prepare customer orders for shipment including bundling, tagging, staging, packaging, and securing materials Verify orders for accuracy and completeness before, during, and after loading activities Assemble and package accessories such as clips, nuts, bolts, nosing, and structural components for shipment Tag completed jobs, complete shipping documentation, and submit paperwork to supervision Bundle and load trucks efficiently while maintaining production and quality standards Cut steel strip and angle materials for welding and fabrication operations Operate saws, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment safely and effectively Receive incoming materials, inspect for accuracy, and place materials into inventory or designated storage locations Complete daily inspections of forklifts, cranes, and other equipment and report equipment issues or malfunctions to supervision Maintain accurate production, shipping, and inventory records including bills of lading and packing lists Enter data into computer systems and organize shipping and production paperwork Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision
Qualifications and Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required Previous manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, or material handling experience preferred Ability to read and interpret work orders, shipping documents, technical instructions, and production paperwork Basic math skills and ability to perform measurements and calculations related to production and shipping activities Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and handle materials throughout the shift Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial plant environments with moving equipment and varying temperatures
